DIY BEST way to CLEAN Crystals, Remove Calcite

This is my go to to clean crystals with calcite over growth that is not enhancing the crystal. all you need is muriatic acid, and plastic bucket or tub and water.

For Iron oxidation and build up I use Iron out and soak the crystals for a day or 2 at room temperature. do not let the iron out solution get too cold with the crystals it will turn the iron black.

Might be smart to transfer overflow into another bucket and soak more crystals in it. Then in the end, neutralize the acid completely with waste calcite, or at least baking soda befor pouring it into the environment. Just saying.

Awesome 👏🏻 I watched a gal the other day and she was using the blue Lysol cling toilet cleaner. She was so precautions. And I was like I don’t even use gloves when I use it to clean. I prefer your information. Cause it’s clear you know your stuff. Anyhow I can back you on being careful. You may cringe but I was found and not very bright. We had my uncle build our home. He put Satillo tile down but didn’t finish it. Because he wasn’t charging us for a custom home. So he told me what to do before finishing the tiles. And it involved Muretic acid. It was not ventilated I didn’t even have the door open. Needless to say it did cause me to have a bloody nose and dizzy. So please everyone be careful. I also didn’t use gloves. No it didn’t burn my hands but they were very dried out. Thank you for posting this video.

Just an FYI...you should let people know to add concentrated acid to water not water to acid.

I've found some crazy cool rocks in lake Havasu, lots of chalcedony, agate, huge chunks of jasper, and this marble looking swirly rock that kinda looks like jawbreaker it is orange/pink/ white swirl. I love watching your videos Elle, I've learned alot from them😊

Hi. Great video. I found a big quartz chunk that has silver going through it. What is the best way to clean it without losing any of the silver? Thank you

So what is it that i keep doing wrong that is making my geodes seem to still have a layer on crud after acid baths? Maybe i leave in too long? I do rinse really well i know that. Uggg

But this video both triggered me and made me giggle. Triggered because even at 10 15pm im about to head out back and wash more rocks and the giggle because you aare literally the only person i have ever watched handle the jug of acid exactly like me! I mean from start to rinse was like watching myself. No gloves nothing but my hose and multiple plastic buckets and landscape rocks to dump on. Oh and the super duper excited narraration as well!!!! Too awsome!

Where's your backing soda to stop tbe acid from hurting your crystals ?
You didnt neutralize it?? That's probably why they fail off and you l9st some .. water doesn't stop acid activity

Always acid in water, and not the contrary; the reaction could throw acid outise of the bucket

Like the way you clean the crystal in lake Havasu is very lovely

What are the crystals you are cleaning? If they are calcite, why aren't they dissolving with the acid? I'm wondering what rocks I should and shouldn't use this method with :)

Nice crystals! Did you soak them in a base solution afterwards? Just curious

Hello there. I found this gray rock that has quartz like bits to it. It feels heavier than it should. I think it may be a big quartz with a layer of gray crud on it. I put it in vinegar and it bubbles. Is there anything else I can do to get rid of the gray crud?

I've got a real nice plate that I dug up in Arkansas. Unfortunately it's loaded with sandstone. You can see the crystals through holes in the sandstone, but I'm not sure how to get rid of it.

thank you for showing this i was wandering, now i have another question, why do we break the geodes apart if hydrocloric acid does that job ? just to check if there are crystals formed in the geode? or is there another reason for it?

I've used a similar technique to clean up some beautifully banded calcite. If you are ever interested, there is a place on BLM land that contains some incredible banded calcite. I'd be happy to share the location!

And why the heck aren't you teaching people to put that safety gear on BEFORE you opened that muriatic acid!
