I'd suggest a nylon brush or 3M pad for the contours. That steel brush is very agressive--way too much damage to the wood for me.

I loved when you scrape to the first layer off, such satisfaction!! I used the citristrip on four 8" metal letters, it was not an easy process, I followed the directions to a T, it took 3 x and there is still some small spots of paint on them.
