How to Make Good Artwork

I believe good ,and certainly great, paintings engage our intellect and our emotions, by employing processes, tools and techniques that convey a "message," feeling or artistic vision. I call paintings that do that "whole art." In this video, I talk about how the Four Phases of Whole Artist Mastery can help you dig deep, let loose and constructively analyze your work so you too can make the compelling work you want to bring to the world. #oilpainting #artisticvoice #paintiingprocess

It is inspiring to listen, i am still working on finding my Style and my inner voice. Sometimes it feels like I will never get there, but on the way some beautiful pieces appear and painting gives me the greatest inner peace. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I love your Art 😊

Thank you so much for your in-depth description of your process. It allows me so much freedom to know that I don’t have to create something right from the beginning that it can unfold in its own time.❤

Hi Marianne!
Thank you for sharing your process and sparking a conversation about that. I can absolutely identify the phases you describe in my own creative process. I think I haven't got that kind of proficiency that could let me balance the "unconscious" intuitions with more conscious thought out steps. And this is such a pain point, because I know what I want to "say", but it seems I don't have the words or the grammar to express it the way I really want. It's like a thought I have clear in my mind and yet - even though it is on the tip of the tongue - I am still are unable to say it. It can be really frustrating because in the end most of the times I unfortunately end up with a piece that is not truly, entirely me.

Hi Marianne - great video, and over several years of working with your four phases, they make more and more sense to me. During moment of feeling stuck or rudderless, the loose structure of the four phases helps me to know where the piece is and therefore I can keep going. One thing that struck me during your discussion was that the longer the artist stays in reckless abandon, the stronger the piece is. I don't remember hearing this before and would love to hear more about this.
