I live in CT. My severance is based on two months of my salary plus a prorated amount of my annual bonus. I was let go on 11/21/24. I received one half of my severance payout on 12/10/24 and will receive the other half in January probably around the same time. 1/10/25 give or take a day or two. Should I wait until after the second payment to apply for unemployment or should I go ahead and apply now?

Thanks! Any insights on North Carolina? Also, does delaying your severance by 6 -8 months help your chances of receiving unemployment?
