What does an AbilityNet assessor do?

AbilityNet has a team of expert assessors who provide one-to-one recommendations for people in workplace and education settings. They have a range of backgrounds, including ergonomics, occupational health and assistive technology. They use this unique mix of specialist knowledge to identify the needs of the people they are supporting and recommend solutions that help them achieve their goals.

One of the senior assessors is Joanne Beacham, who travels across the country doing assessments every week. “I've been to people many times who think they'll have to give up work, until I show them a piece of technology they don't know about.”

She also coordinates a team of assessors who carry out Disability Student’s Allowances (DSA) assessments and workplace assessments.

Adam is a DSA assessor based in Brighton. He uses his listening skills to understand each student's individual needs and then works with them to identify out what tech or tech adaptations can help them get the most out of their studies.

Assessor Mary Stein enjoys passing on her knowledge about the latest technology. “It's great to see tech getting better and better,” she says.
