The Beatles 'A DAY IN THE LIFE' Ultimate Remix: Sgt. Pepper’s 1967 Vocals With 2017 Instrumentation

This remix of the iconic track from The Beatles' 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band combines elements from three excellent pre-released versions. The goal was to create a more dynamic version that showcases the best of each. The vocals come from George Martin's original 1967 mix, where they journeyed adventurously across the stereo stage. Giles Martin (George Martin's son) removed this effect entirely in his 2017 remix but enhanced the sound quality and fidelity of the instrumentation by using near first-generation multi-track sources. For my remix, I used Giles' version for the instrumentation, while positioning each instrument on the stereo stage as close as possible to their original 1967 placements.

John's unconventional "Sugar Plum Fairy" count-in was extracted from the Love version, and I also incorporated the nonsensical chatter from the 1967 run-out groove into my remix. These edits were carefully made with attention to their original positions and timing from their respective sources.

For me, part of the charm of the 1967 version lies in the vocal movements, which make for an exciting listen, especially with headphones—something I highly recommend when hearing my remix. I’m very pleased with the final result and feel I’ve achieved a more complete version of this classic song.

Many thanks for listening!

A Day in the Life made Sgt. Pepper's album became that iconic songwriting. It is extra-dimensional and very out of this world. Nothing like it ever since.

People talk about how amazing Ringo's drumming is on "Rain" (and it frickin' is), it's just as juicy on this as well. Just puttin' it out there....

BRILLIANT!!! Better than the original! And this 75 years old fan actually hate all covers/remixes. But I can see why remixes are part of a silent revolution in the music industry... Thanks for sharing.

Lennon’s behind the beat voice with that round, full bodied Ric Bass sound…the fist minute 45 seconds are pure bliss, majestic!

One of the greatest masterpieces in rock n roll history. The lyrics and melody were primarily written by John Lennon but Paul wrote the second stanza and came up with that whole orchestral crescendo thing and George Martin contributed much of the orchestral arrangement to the song. Sublime....

Wow! I'm 71, been a Beatles fan since the beginning. Never heard the "sugar plum fairy" line before. Love this remix. You are racking up quite a string of successes.👍🏻

Damn this song is out of this world! My mother loved the Beatles, so that made me a fan. I remember when she told me that John was shot (I was eight), and it was so hard for me to grasp that the voice in a day in a life would never sing again. I listened to his hanuting call for hours, "And I went into a dream..." Ahhh...

There’s a lot of good Rock & Roll I’ve had the pleasure of listening to, but for me, IMHO there’s nothing like A Day In The Life!!!

Stunning. Sounds as it was produced just yesterday. We can't discount the role and influence of uber producer George Martin

I'm in Awe every time I hear this. I remember the first time in 1967 sitting on the couch with a friend of mine listening to this. We didn't have much to say when it was over. Clean and Sober at that time also.
