The 5 Stages of Self Improvement.

the different stages of self improvement.

this video demonstrates how one's journey could look like doing self improvement. in my opinion, self improvement isn't something one should strive to do for the rest of ones life. of course improving oneself is really important and you should never stop learning. but i mean "self improvement" in the sense of what people think it on youtube. in essence: meditating, journaling, cold showering, habit tracking, etc.

people focus way too much on stuff like that, while in my opinion, self improvement is something you do to become a more responsible, better functioning human being with more purpose and direction in life.

it can change your life, because you can actually get stuff done after being on self improvement for some time. our end goal should be to make the world a better place and help people around us, so we should focus our energy on that, not on the perfect morning routine.

i hope this gave you an idea of my philosophy regarding this whole thing.

and i hope this philosophy can help you.

This is the least toxic and screaming video about self improvement. So chill, very good video, thank you

Self Improvement is 90% internal and 10% external. Once you realize this your Journey actually begins

there is something beautiful about "stage 4", this stage unveils shadow work, where you indulge into instant gratification unconsciously but at the same time moments unfold into self-reflection where you begin to become aware of the things that have been holding you back from going up, there you strive again

Stage 1: FTE (Fuck This Event, something bad happens and you start self improvement)
Stage 2: You start to look for self improvent videos, often start failing. Author said this is the worst stage.
Stage 3: You slowly start to build habits etc. Things feel good and fun.
Stage 4: Motivation starts draining. You go into a downward spiral, breaking your rules and going back as if nothing happened. After a couple months, you go back to stage 3, and the cycle repeats.
Stage 5: At some point, the cycle breaks and you start to do things no matter what. You stop making self improvement your personality and things genuinely get better

Stage 4.5: You realize that you just need to rest sometimes, man

The big issue with many self improvement talks, podcasts, articles, etc. is that rarely does it state that moderation is acceptable. People forget, we are human. not only do we make mistakes, but we aren't perfect and never will be.

Going the rest of your life thinking masturbation is the worst thing and you should never experience self pleasure goes against human nature.

Eating clean all the time, without fail and denying yourself the pleasure of sweets and fats is nigh impossible.

Working out 6 or 7 days a week is really, REALLY taxing on the body and we need to have days of rest.

Its nice to have hobbies that keep you busy but don't let people say that watching a youtube vid here and there is going to give you brainrot.

We are human and not machines, and many self-improvement channels try to make you into the next Mozart, Ronnie Coleman, the best of the best. Those people are outliers - they got to where they wanted to be because they truly wanted it but they made so many sacrifices because of it.

I'm not saying that people shouldn't better themselves. Hell, I have a full time job, hobbies and exercise but i'm not going to try to be this godly messiah of a person who does everything the way its "supposed" to be all my life. All work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy, as they say.

TL;DR: It's okay to have goals and strive for greatness but don't be super hard on yourself all the time- unless you have a medical condition that needs to be addressed by extreme measures, in which case you should seek help from licened professionals for a good starting point.

I also want to point out that you are not on one stage and just stay there. Success is not linear, you probably will fail many times throughout your life. Many people want to categorize themselves in to one stage.

After a while in self improvement you discover that is not about doing more, is a about doing what needs to be done. Maybe you want to be a sucessfull autor but working out takes your focus and energy, then is just better to stop working out or do it less frequently, with this you focus on your porpouse and eventually you will have new goal and be able to to things you couldn't do before.

Fun fact: if ur searching for self improvement you already had your FTE but if you're not strong enough another FTE happens

you actually nailed it bro, i had my stage 4 in winter of 2023, learned a lot from it and realized everything doesn't revolve just about grattitude journaling and meditating every day and started to take a more relaxed, long-term maintainable approach.

I think I've been stuck in stage 4 some time. I'm trying to get back on track, and something that is helping me is "doing less".
I focused too much in Self Improvement and put aside all my hobbies, so I ended burned out.
Something so small as reading a bit of a book or a manga daily made me able to focus on my goals with less stress and with better results.
I really liked this video 👍

This whole cycle of failing and improving was really well said. I was pretty addicted to the internet a few years ago. I tried to limit it but eventually sent back to it again. I thought I'm a failure for failing so much, but after this video I realized I always learned something new and useful, and I'm at a better place right now. Thank you.

OMG, finally someone said that you need to do the actual work. Working out, meditations, cold showers and journaling are good but they don't get you anywhere

“But you need to have some actual work to do to make self improvement useful”

Hits deeper than it should and is a big reminder that self improvement is a tool, not a lifestyle

Does anyone ever wonder why previous generations didn't seem to have to go through a self improvement stage?

I'm at stage 5 rn and I don't feel doing effort anymore because things like working out regularly to improve my health became a habit that benefits me everyday and it works like a charm. I used to eat a lot of junk food and drink ton of soda without working out so I got fatter but now since I workout in the morning I get more energy to go to work and I build muscles which help with my height and people tend to tell me that it would be suicidal to go against me. But I allow myself to eat some junk food occasionally and I appreciate it more than before because I chose a set time for it instead of guilt tripping myself.

Finally someone who speaks about this. I'm really tired of those videos keep saying the same things all over again. Its literally draining my motivation. Thanks for bringing this up man. I really needed it on my self improvement journey 😄

I loved the little chuckles in this video. It's important you laugh at yourself in your best intentions your failures, delusions. Humor can signify a lesson learned that was felt by taking the steps towards action.
