From Japan to China to Taiwan, there are many different styles of hot pot to be enjoyed.

What seems like a dish you have to dine out for is actually really easy to make at home: It all starts with a rich bone broth, and once you add homemade sauces, lots of fresh vegetables, meat, and noodles, you're ready to throw a hot pot party.

Sue Chan shows us how to make this perfect winter dish in your very own kitchen. And let it be known, there's no party like a hot pot party.

I was thinking wow she must have been raised in a very traditional Asian household but then I saw her wearing shoes in the house.

I am Chinese, like born and bred, live in Hong Kong my entire life. the broth is supposed to be boiling before you can dip stuffs in.

I made the broth a couple of weeks ago and stuck it in the freezer. I defrosted the broth last night and had a hot pot party. Broth was extremely good. AND, the peanut sesame sauce was a BIG hit. One thing though, the video shows adding cilantro to the food processor when making the sauce but the recipe doesn't list cilantro as an ingredient. I just eyeballed the amount of cilantro on the video and threw some in. AMAZING.

I lived in Taiwan for 14 years and think Ma La Huo Guo Spicy Hot Pot is one of the best foods in the world. Thanks for sharing your recipe. I suggest adding vinegar to the egg and BBQ sauce, it is so good. We als get Sichuan packages from the grocery store, it is not the best but it is acceptable.

not raised in Asia nor am I Asian, but i'm pretty sure that slow cooker isn't gonna cook your food properly, maybe in 2 hours... maybe
Pretty sure they have portable electric and gas stoves that would be perfect for hot pot substitute

Guess what we are having for Christmas dinner. We have had Sukiyaki several times and thought it was time to try something new. I think we may be making dumplings as well. My mother was an English teacher in Japan and we had Asian food as often as we had Western food. I am getting a head start by make my the broth now. I just started cooking it and it already smells so good.

A slow cooker will definitely not keep it hot enough.

Looks good. I will pan sear the meats and aromatics then make the broths with a pressure cooker.

man, there are so many shitty comments about Sue's demeanor and appearance and the fact that she's doing hot pot her own way. Food is food and every home has their own way of cooking no matter what part of the world you come from. I'm actually in the process of making this broth for use in other dishes. It looks really good and I hope my version of it turns out good too.

Growing up in an American family - and we loved hot pot AND sukiyaki - an old-fashioned Sunbeam electric skillet (circa 1960s) with heat control works pretty well too!

I've lived in Asia for more than 10 years and that's the first time I've seen hotspot being served without a gas burner to keep the broth simmering away. Amateurs

Thanks so much for demonstrating and uploading this wonderful video. I have never heard about this and it looks wonderful. I was telling a friend about it and will send her a link as she loved the idea, too.
