Reading an "Oh. _Oh_ " moment always makes me go absolutely feral every time. When used well, these moments have the potential to become the most memorable points in anything I've ever read, and even if it's used in an only mediocre sort of way it still makes me feel some kinda way haha. Something about that italicized "oh" when a character realizes something awakens something in me and I eat that shit up every time

It actually would be interesting to see a story that overused “x’s heart skipped a beat” on a specific character, then reveal that they *did* have a cardiovascular problem

The "Oh. OH." is absolutely the best fanfic line. Especially when followed up by some sort of panic, like "Oh FUCK."

Read a fanfic once that said "There was a pregnant pause. And from that pause came a lot of baby pauses." And like it was peak, loved it, self-ware but added to the scene, a one-time thing that can't be replicated but must be shared

and other variations of that. Love it.

“Pregnant pause” is terrible unless used creatively, and I only saw it used in an amazing way once in this beautiful quote: “There was a pregnant pause. It gave birth to a lot of little pauses, each one more deeply embarrassing than its parent.” (This is from Going Postal by Terry Pratchett, not a fic)

Don’t forget the very commonly misspelled “bugle” as a euphemism for ykw. It’s supposed to be bulge I’m pretty sure but the amount of times I’ve seen it spelled as bugle is either a testament to how autocorrect can ruin a fic or a testament to how many ao3 fics ive read. Last night i read a fic where “bugle” was used at least 6 times it was hilarious I was cry laughing at like 2am

I completely agree with "released a breath they didn't know they were holding". The first time I read it I was a bit mind blown because it is such a specific thing to say, so accurate for what it describes too. But then I started reading it in multiple fics and even though it almost always fit the scene perfectly, it started getting a little cringy. Still, it's kinda genius in a way

I now want a fanfiction, where a characters heart repeatedly skips a beat, and in the final or second to final chapter, that character has a cardiac event. Preferably, the final chapter is in a hospital and the character is fine. Romance to Hurt/comfort.
