Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland, Australia, about 45kms north of Brisbane - the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online, so come along with me and let's get into it! Cheers, Mark :)

Massive green thumbs up from me. Specially because I can grow these in Scotland more or less with a success. ❤️

Good Morning, Mark! I’m in New Jersey and built three raised beds from 22 inches to 33 inches in height all from my deck that I ripped out last summer💪🏽. Filled with logs, wood chips, mushroom soil, manure compost and homemade compost. It’s planting time! 👍🏼

5 ~ Beans.. Madagascar Beans, 7-year perennial that can be eaten young as a 'green bean", and once dried (on the vine), they make a great base for soups (soak overnight), plus (depending where you live), 2 crops a year

Thanks Mark. Have a good day. I have planted tomatoes, pole beans, bush beans, okra and squash so far this year. We have had so much rain and weird weather this year in Texas but I think by Mothers day all will be well. Have a great week.

Good on you for pushing this out there Mark. So many are struggling at the moment to feed themselves/family. Keep up the great vibe!! We grow as much as we can and also give our excess to neighbours.

Thanks mark. Good info. We are about to get fisted harder than the 2008 gfc. Im stocking on bulk tinned food and rice etc whilst growing a heap of our own fresh produce.

I literally just had snap peas and grape tomatoes as a snack. I really should put them in the garden

I haven't tried cabbage yet... And my corn never goes well (I don't have the space for enough stalks for a good crop) but the other four are my main staples.

It’s cool that all of these plants you mentioned are plants you can even grow in very cold regions.

Green Beans and potatoes cooked in stewed tomatoes with chicken is one of my favorite meals. So easy when it's all growing right there.
