As the Sixties drew to a close, many popular bands of the time saw the need to evolve and change ... but few made it! Notable exceptions were The Beegees and The Hollies. When this release entered the UK charts in October 1969, it marked a radical new style for them. Elton John is the piano player on this one ....

I’m a Vietnam veteran who lost both legs and every time I hear this song I get a heavy punch to my stomach and tears flowing from my eyes remembering everything but one thing I can tell you I wish I could go back again

I'm a Vietnam vet (USMC) and this song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. It reminds me of times long ago when men were men and girls were girls. No greater gift can any man give than to lay down his life for his brother. Rusty in eastern Tennessee

My dad, who is in poor health is 84 years old and US Army retired. Two tours Korea and one tour in Vietnam. No matter how we feel about both wars, US soldiers stood up to serve America. Never forget their sacrifice. They didn't come home to parades and discounts from stores being a veteran.

Sadly, this “brotherhood “ in the US, is now long gone. Politics has split us, let’s pray music like this can unite us once again. We need to help each other up when we fall down.

Very powerful! I'm 65 and a vet. I'm swimming 15 miles in 6 days for the Wounded Warriors project. I start my swim at 6 in the AM with this song in my heart! My brothers and sisters and their families need our help and I'm proud to help them and our country! God Bless everyone

My mother told me a story about this song. A man saw a boy carrying a larger boy.the man asked if he was too small to carry him. The boy said, "He ain't heavy Mister, he's my brother." Thank you, mom, that was a beautiful story.

I am Vietnam Veteran and this song means a lot to me and tears rolling down my cheeks whenever I hear or played it on my guitar. I also remember my uncles who all survived the Bataan Death March carrying and helping each other, the sick and the wounded for hundreds of miles without medicine, food and water.
In memory also to my fellow Vietnam Veterans living and dead. Thank you to all who have served this Great Nation of ours and those who are still serving.
God Bless The USA.🇺🇸

This song reminds my of my husband who, for his whole life, had taken care of his little brother who is very disabled. His brother can do very little for himself. Out of 6 children, my husband is the only one that has stayed behind to take care of his brother full time. Makes me love my husband even more!

Back in 1918, a boy named Howard Loomis was abandoned by his mother at Father Flanagan’s Home for Boys, which had opened just a year earlier. Howard had polio and wore heavy leg braces. Walking was difficult for him, especially when he had to go up or down steps.

Soon, several of the Home’s older boys were carrying Howard up and down the stairs.

One day, Father Flanagan asked Reuben Granger, one of those older boys, if carrying Howard was hard.

Reuben replied, “He ain’t heavy, Father… he’s m’ brother.”

As a combat medic this song kept me strong carrying my brothers to safety.
It made my burden easier to carry.
