Boston has never required homeowners to do this.

Whats worse is they spend the time logging violations and say they are complaints, But the complaints are about places like bus stops and government parks that are not getting cleaned by the state. But lets just blame the residence....

Here's an interesting scenario:
A home burned down years ago and was never rebuilt. The owner of the property took his insurance money and just moved away. Never paying taxes on the land, the city just assumed the property rights.
If nobody owns that vacant lot and therefore nobody shovels the sidewalk in front it, if someone slips on it and gets injured, can that person sue the city as they would the homeowner of an uncleared sidewalk? Does the injured party just take it on the chin?

Yikes! That's a liability nightmare. Homeowners are asking for a bunch of lawsuits.... better to get around with ice skates.

As a resident of Boston, I think it's an issue of icy sidewalks NOT having adequate NON icyness.

Here in Denver we have 24 hrs after the snow stops to shovel your sidewalk. I think first complaint is a warning then it’s $150

It's always been like this. If you don't like it move to florida or get a shovel.

I’ve been shoveling my sidewalks since the early 1960’s. Now I’m a 75 year old disabled veteran but I have to worry about the city coming after me because it snows in NE. F U.

I think this is the city’s responsibility, the city can’t make you work for free and this should be challenged in the courts
