Forgot to edit in some context and visuals but the 73hour Morrowind video took under 12 hours to render locally BUT Youtube's HD processing took over a week :D (and two uploads).

Man I'm the complete opposite, but I think the world benefits from having both kinds of people. I've never really had ambitions beyond surviving with the bare minimum (that is fulfilling in and of itself to me), because my happiness is directly tied to how much free time I have. I like to play video games with someone I love, and appreciate things made by others in this world. Sometimes I review the games I play, or write comments such as this one, but that's about as creative as I like to get on a daily basis. That's not to say I'm immune to the Squidward routine depression meme, but if I ever feel that way, then I just play something else. Work and ambition makes me anxious and sad. But for some people it's the opposite, and that's great.

Though, I'm not exactly "normal". The part about eating the same food everyday? I do that. But I have hypersensitivity, so simple things like cereals, toasts and pasta have always tasted extremely good to me. Every time. I've eaten those things everyday and I'm almost in my 30s, it never gets old. Bread in particular will always make me very happy. Mac and cheese too. I've often thought that if someone can't be happy with what they have, they will ultimately never be happy, but I think "what you have" is different for each person. For ambitious and creative people, that "high score chase" is what they want to have. That's what makes them happy. So if they stop trying to challenge themselves, they effectively lose what they had. Interesting stuff.

It’s the “your decompress/fun activity becomes the job” and you don’t see them as fun anymore and it’s work on your YouTube.

I’m former theatre kid myself, I’ve gone back to community theatre now in my 30s and even jumped on some small bit/extras roles once a year or so. It’s that artistic challenge and thrill of it. Completely understand that, and I hope you sincerely pursue it and keep that passion for it alive, as an escape!

Watched you for years and love your channel, hands down my favorite creator. Keep pushing yourself to find new things of interest! Have you considered writing? Playwriting even?

Keep kicking ass Josh!

One lesson I learned probably a bit too late in life, is that if there's something you've always fancied doing but have told yourself it's not a good match for your skills/personality/whatever, is to just start. You will be embassingly bad for a while but improvement will inevitably happen.

10:47 - lol, no. The only difference in the second week is that it passes by more quickly. When it's done and I have to go back to work, I still wish I had more time off.

Same thing during the pandemic, everyone was happy at first that they didn't have to go to work, and then they wanted to go and see everyone. I still didn't.

I know this isn't Josh's main channel, but, hoping he sees this, there was one point he put out a few skits on youtube. I havent seen any in awhile, but maybe something like that could help push you to create and participate in theater-like activity, without compromising your youtube.

As a musician I often take unpaid orchestra positions in musical theatre because they're one of the only gigs I can do that truly challenge me while also being enjoyable. Hell, I'm barely a theatre musician and I've been musical director of a few things because it's been a valuable learning experience. Next step is get good enough to learn to conduct an orchestra.

It's good to hear this point of view. I'm in a lull at the moment between university years, the end of week 1 i was feeling an itch that I was wasting my time. I've started designing a video game that I'm about to try programming (not an MMO!).

Not expecting it to give instant gratification, but writing down the ideas for it is giving me a great motivation to keep it going.

The part about a long vacation is so true. I was injured at work and ended up spending a year off. The first couple weeks were great, but then it REALLY hit me. I took that extra time I had to learn how to cook, now it's one of my favorite and most relaxing activities.

I have that same feeling somedays with cooking, I miss the soul crushing hours and work so hard there is no time for thinking about anything but the job, waking up at 5am after working until midnight...

Then I realise, I never want to do it again, If I had the gift of gab and a nice voice I'd do gaming youtube without the messaging minors parts.

Can't relate to this one at all. I would be perfectly happy staying home and taking naps.

Thanks for the monologue. I’ve had a bit of thing too where I’ve had not enough time to be creative due to my professional life. I can have hobbies around it but it’ll never take off without luck. You can put hard work in but sometimes it’s just better off staying a fun hobby I guess

From a man whose struggling in the same position of work vs passion, heres what I will say:
A man who works for a purpose instead of materialistic pleasures will find his rewards in life far more bountiful than anything money can buy. Your name is more valuable than riches, and your principles more valuable than your prizes.
In a way you've proven that already with youtube and twitch. People enjoy watching you.
I say go for the challenge! You'll find it more worthwhile than other ventures 👍

It's important to keep challenging yourself on a daily basis. Nothing kills a man's spirit faster than comfort.

With my nuclear strength executive disfunction doing anything is a challenge. Brushing my teeth, cleaning, walking out the door are monumental battles that I don't always succeed in. Before I hurt my foot one of the few relaxing things I found was running. I let my body go through the motion and can focus on one thought at a time. To put it another way, the body tires and the mind becomes quiet. It's one of the few things I do where there's no expectation of accomplishment. I just DO.

If Josh goes back to the theater, would that just be a different kind of Josh Strife Plays?
