George F.R. Ellis - Ultimate Questions - How Do They Evolve?

Ask the most fundamental questions; make the most penetrating inquires; probe the deep essence of existence. Push boundaries. Search the foundations of reality. Imagine all that may exist in physics and cosmology, even beyond current understanding. Then ask how such ultimate questions may change over time.

I own On The Moral Nature of the Universe, and it is a very insightful book. I haven’t seen much in the way of arguments against it since it was released back in 1996. I just love how George Ellis is humble enough to not make bold, declarative statements with an intent to gain notoriety or generate headlines. He’s the best.

Those that would call "beyond-physical" causation as non-scientific, have clearly not studied the underlying issues/concepts in any depth. For there have been a number of scientific, peer-reviewed articles published in this area FYI quite recently:
1) Top-down causation and quantum physics
GFR Ellis - Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2018

2)Top-down effects in the brain
G Ellis - Physics of life reviews, 2018

3) The Dynamical Emergence of Biology from Physics: Branching Causation via Biomolecules
GFR Ellis, J Kopel - Frontiers in Physiology, 2018

4)Beyond Evolutionary Psychology
G Ellis, M Solms - 2017

An interesting end to the video and I agree with this direction for sure.

the nonphysical is actually more basic and the physical emerges from it. this is clear to many, but it is an understanding beyond the many.

/I have four questions about the origin of the universe 14 billion years ago

1. How will the universe be formed if the shape of the universe is flat?
2. How will the birth of the universe be if the universe is spherical?
3. How will the birth of the universe be if the universe is open like a horse's saddle?

The Big Bang created the universe 14 billion years ago
But the fourth question is, does the shape of the universe explain what happened before the Big Bang?
Please send my four questions to cosmologists

Please post your answer to YouTube and the web browser with new images and videos about the universe

It's always my pleasure to be the first one to watch these videos

Scientists do not have the answer to how we're created. Only the Creator can use visible human beings to have them testify to the knowledge of how we're created by having us write, speak and observe visions and dreams along with listening to a few chosen individuals used to bring us some more information to put it all together. Now I know there is a Creator ( invisible consciousness ) that thought up all the various creatures ( humans, animals, etc.) and worlds that they experience within their individual minds.

He calls a book he disagrees with "silly" and rejects lots of plausible ideas with no reasoning besides "I don't like them" (in particular many-worlds QM) and then minutes later advocates for non-physical causation which has absolutely no basis in evidence. Naturalism is the only framework that has proven useful for understanding the natural world, all this "non-physical causation" stuff is textbook quackery; he may have done some worthwhile work previously but this wasn't worth the time investment to watch.

Non-physical causation. That's how intelligent people try to avoid the shame of saying they believe in magic.

Isn't morality a human construct? Did morality exist when dinosaurs roamed the earth? Or let's get closer to our time, did it exist during Homo Habilis time? No, I think, morality is a system by which humans ascribe value to certain actions. ie, murder, etc... I ask why isn't it immoral when I human kills a pig, or when a lion kills a antelope?

In the grand scheme of the vast universe does it matter when a human is murdered? I would submit, that no, it doesn't. This is not an argument for immoral behavior, but rather just to say that morality is not an intrinsic property of the universe, rather it is a construct we use as a survival mechanism to label actions to stay away from if you want to further the species.
