Things you NEED to do before Hard Mode

In terraria, you will eventually get into hard mode about halfway through the game, at which point you will unlock a lot more content, but the game will also become a lot more difficult. While that may seem bad at first, there is a ton of things you can do before getting into hard mode that will make your playthrough much easier, which is exactly what I go over in this video

"you should try to get every single NPC possible before hardmode"

For those saying teleporters are post mech . You can now get them from the mechanic 1.4.4

For everyone watching this and is scared of entering harmode, don’t be. As of 1.4.4 there is no risk to having your evil biomes spread besides a slight challenge to clean up. Additionally you can just build most farms as you need them. If you are playing in master mode though, a herb farm is required due to the amount of potions you will need. Really unless you are planning to play in your world long past post-moon lord then you really don’t need to do anything. :)

The cat statue already gives you the defense when you put it down

Another very helpful use for the jungle farm, the large plants can be broken for grubbies, sluggies and buggies, which can be used as fishing bait

Another helpful tip with the world evils, buy a ton of sunflowers from the dryad to place on the surface, it has a hidden feature where if there are enough placed, it reduces both how far the transition zone of the evil biome is with each one you place, AND entirety halts surface spread!

This thing isn't necessarily done pre-hardmode but it is recommended you do it before beating plantera, which is digging up a big area in your dungeon and make an afk farm since you wouldn't want to deal with post-plantera dungeon enemies.

Building a bridge with asphalt is also very effective for traveling.

Placing jungle grass in your underground mob farm(s) will also increase enemy spawn rates

you forgot the most important benefit of using planter boxes: smart cursor placement works *really* well for them, so you'll be able to place them far faster and more consistently

The mushroom pylon at the dungeon idea has to be the most genius thing I've ever heard

It's not just the Nurse and Arms Dealer. Any two NPCs who "like" each other will sell the Pylon for that biome if they are living together. Also, any _three_ NPCs living together will cause the surrounding area to be considered a "village, " which will cause most enemy spawns to be replaced with critters. For village creation purposes, all pets and Town Slimes count as NPCs, so the easiest way to set up a base is two compatible NPCs + one pet animal or slime in every biome. I also like to set up a base on top of the aether, both so you can quickly teleport to it, and so enemies stop harassing you while you're trying to use it.

Personally what I did for the Aether biome/shimmer was set up my goblin tinkerer and demolitionist there so I have a pylon that goes straight there

For everyone struggling to do the teleporter hub you dont have to you can just buy pylons which does the same thing as the teleporter hub

You can also buy mushroom biome seeds from the dryad when she is there.

I did not prepare enough for Hard mode (1st play through). And now I've had to dig tunnels around/under my NPC houses to stop crimson spread in a panic. The desert is an unwalkable hell. Jungle not much better. Thankfully I made a long railway from spawn to both ends of the world in the air. Only one hellavator below spawn 'for convenience' and many more things. That now. Next time. I'll be doing things very very differently. Having a fishing pond for blood moon fishing esp, farms generally actually. And pray for adamantite instead of titanium because titan' is hell to see...

Build the mushroom base above your evil biome so you basically have a pylon for that.
Also, I believe the glowing mushroom quest fish works on the surface too.

unless you're playing on a large world, don't even think about building sky bridge using blocks instead use platforms or planter boxes
otherwise it would be so annoying that when my friend did it I felt like punching him to death.

note that this is especially true if you're playing Calamity because you'll need to fly really high and move around a lot against bosses and the blocks will get in your way, but platforms in the other hand will help you a lot.
