In this video, we’ll be looking at how to use clichés and tropes in your writing in relation to specific genres, looking at some examples before talking about how you can use them to improve your writing, add originality to your voice, and entertain and surprise your readers by using them in different ways by subverting them.

I can't believe no one has commented on this video yet. This was very helpful to me. I've been writing on a story for a few years now and starting to realize now that there many elements in the story that some would call cliche. For example, the detective character who lost someone in his life and is now a heavy drinker, etc. For anyone who is worried that his story or characters are to cliche, I think they should not try to avoid it if you really want to write your story that way then go do it. In the end, it's your unique way of telling the story that makes it interesting. Maybe try to give your chliche a nice spin on it (that's whats I did).
