How to remove a waste trap | Blocked waste trap

This video shows how to remove and replace a waste trap, often called a U bend from beneath a basin or sink and replace it. Sometimes clearing the blockage is best done by other means depending on how accessible the waste trap is, you could try these two methods first-
or if you feel comfortable removing the waste trap it is probably the most inexpensive way of fixing the blocked sink (providing that is where the blockage is).
It has been known for the sealing washers in the waste trap to break upon dismantling, so if this happens you will have to obtain new sealing rings from your local plumbers merchants.

Thanks a bunch you just saved me a ton of money and alot of annoying explanations to my roommates. I just wanted to fix ut and be done but wasnt sure what would happen if i unscrewed the pipes and if anything else was required to fix it. This worked on the kitchen sink and bathroom sink. Both of which had this problem. I love trying to figure out how to fix the issues i encounter. Next stop fix my car ugh

thx for the vid,
To check if the plastic pipes leek you can use a toilet paper, wrap it round the pipe and if it leeks you can see a dark stain on the paper (best if the paper is not white)
cheers

Hi mate im just looking for information on flexible waste pipe i basically want to connect straight off my bathroom sink waste screw and then cut my plastic waste that goes to the drain and join onto that with a compression joint is this possible? Iv got very little space hence the flexi waste idea, they sell em in screwfix but dont seem to have a screw to go onto the plughole part

I have a major issue with a blockage at the moment. The problem is this, i had an extension done about 24 - 30 months ago, the extension is outside the kitchen so the roding point used to be just outside the kitchen window at ground level. The divs that done the extension decided they would concrete the roding point in to the oversite. Only last week i noticed a bad smell of drain in the conservatory where the roding point used to be. I even told them at the time to make sure they run it out of the extension because it will need to be used incase of blockages in the future. So it's taken all this time for the smell to get through the 150mm concrete oversite & the company that done the work are having none of it & taking no responsibility. So at my expense i will have to break the floor out, find the roding point & get it outside the building. Kitchen sink is blocked & stinks to high heaven, conservatory stinks aswell. So far everything i have tried works for maybe a day or 2 then the stench returns....

I always have problems with my plastic sink trap if I touch it.  I end up having to get really crazy with it and tightening it with a ... whatever you call those plumbing plier things.

One thing I've found that works really well is this long, strip of plastic with regular barbs placed on the edged of it.  A piece of plastic with a ring at the end for you to hold on to that is about 3/16" x 3/8" in cross-section and maybe not quite 3' long that you push down the drain and work it around.  It will grab up hair or stuff and either push it down the drain or pull it up.  I think it was a few bucks.  Kind of gross after you have used it once, but that thing works like a charm for kitchen or bathroom.

Kind of like a little plastic mini-snake.
