DIY - Install and remove stretch fit belt without special tools

Thank you for this. After work I will remove the belts from mom's chevy aveo and replace the alternator. When I saw the TWO belts Sunday I was surprised and couldn't figure out how to do the job. Now its clear. Remove the stretch belt (outside), then put 3/4, 19, box ratchet whatever fits on 12 point star belt release and turn CCW to remove serpantine (inner).

Used this for help last night. My belt was slipping off after a few tries...so I put the belt on other side of pulley. Then it jumped on instead of off. Thanks for the video...2009 Ford Escape 6 Cylinder

I googled “install belt without tensioner, and it brought me here. Knowing it wasn’t going to be the same application, I was still curious. And glad I was, I’m working on the exact same vehicle, made my day. (Reservoir, thermostat coolant temp sending unit, water pump, and anything else I broke along the way. Thanks man. Great video!

Wow, you make this look too easy! I doubt that it will be as easy on my 3.5L Ford edge, it has to be done from the bottom. Thak you for the tip.

You can use a zip-tie to install it. Just thread the zip-tie through the top pulley spoke and around the belt. My new belt came with one. Just bump the engine and the belt installs itself while the zip-tie gets cut at the same time.

Used this trick on a yale forklift. Worked great just gotta not be stupid and know what's going to turn when you crank her over. Nice thing was I could have one hand on the belt and the other on the key because "forklift" just don't tell WCB ;)

Hmmm, That procedure route will work. But's there's safer ways, of doing the job. For a new-bee working on their vehicle, that's flirt-in with DISASTER....

Cut old belt off, use zip tie method to install new. Putting a metal tool on the pulley is not a good idea because of how easy it is to nick/damage it, which will cause belts to fail prematurely.

And not a word about safety and losing fingers in the process with "a friend" spinning the engine...

Someobody is going to be possibly dismembered because of this unsafe advice. A stretch wrench is only like 20 dollars.
