Why I Bought the 'Cheapest' M1 iPad Pro! Why Pay TWICE As Much?!

Today let's talk about why I don't think you really need to upgrade the brand new M1 iPad Pro all that much and why the base models are really fantastic machines that get basically all the same features as the doubly expensive top end of the iPad Pro.

So why is that?

Yeah $2300 is a tall ask from a tablet, I know it has some nice specs but iPad OS has a lot of growing up to do.

Finally a youtuber that isn’t trying to justify paying over 2 grand on an iPad based on the hope that software that doesn’t exist yet will be coming soon. Even if that software is coming I just know that they won’t need the max config

Love your take! I think it will all come down to what Apple does with iPadOS15. All 👀 on June!

As someone who got the 11” M1: couldn’t be happier, this thing is perfection and worth every penny.. I’ll be rocking it til at least 2024

Agreed re: baseline models. I also believe the upgrades cost more than they should bc they are a profit margin booster and especially with Apple where they have fun things to draw you into that higher price point.
Also, you cannot pay more for a tablet than a laptop, that is nonsensical.

I'm actually here to argue that the best one is the SECOND to cheapest option which is the 256GB configuration.
It's the only option Apple offers for more storage space that only costs $99 as where all the other storage upgrades from there are at least $199 more. I feel like by doubling your storage from 128GB to 256GB you do much more to future proof your device without spending that much more. Better than feeling an urge later to upgrade sooner than you may have liked, especially given that the M1 processor is likely to be supported for 5 to 7+ years.

I bought the 12.9 1tb cellular. It came out to $2133. I have absolutely no need for all that storage or ram but I wanted it and had the money so why not😩😁can’t wait til the 21st!

I’m a be honest...when I read the title, I was prepared to come here and just smash the thumbs down arrow off the rip...

But I decided to hear you out....and although I don’t share the same overall thoughts as you, in fact I preordered the maxed out 12.9” 2TB option... you make some great points and this video was well put together. So you get my like and subscribe. You are right that the only difference is RAM & storage, and for MOST neither will ever be an issue. If I didn’t do all what I do..I would be happy with the 128 or 256 version... but...I have proved to myself with the gen 1 iPad Pro 12.9” 128GB version (which i still have and use til this day) that 128GB is NOT enough space for ME. I am constantly erasing things to make space for other things.. I use my iPad almost exclusively for graphic design, photo editing, video editing, and I use it as a “sound module” to record midi to my MPC during best production... even though I have Adobe CC and al the programs on my computer, in the last 6 or so years I have had this iPad, I only used illustrator 3 times..and photoshop once. So since iPad is my workhorse, and with work increasing lately, and the ONLY complaint I have with the Gen 1 is storage.. I opted to get the maxed out storage version..that came with 16, that was a bonus, I didn’t pick that version for the RAM I chose it for the storage, but I am happy with the RAM also, for future proofing, in the event apps get more complex or powerful I will be ready and capable and not be kicking myself for not opting for the maxed version. As you can see I keep them for a while, I don’t buy them yearly or every other year, the main reason I kept this version is cuz of the headphone jack, which I use when using it for midi/audio without extra dongles, I just use camera kit and I get the job done. So I figured out that me buying the maxed out (WiFi not 5g version) @ $2, 381.50 that roughly at 6 years of good use out of it at least, I would need to make around $420 a year for it to pay for itself. So it would pay for itself within 1-2 months tops. So I feel it’s justified to make that purchase. But again for the average user who wants to watch Netflix, YouTube, maybe type some papers up.. definitely all the extra is not needed, great video sir. 👍🏽

256gb the sweet spot for me in terms of budget, performance and specifications- ordered the 11 inch model. Upgraded from 64gb Mini 5

As a average user of iPad, I would love to see a 12” iPad released. That would be the sweet spot for me, bigger than the 11” but smaller than the 12.9”.

My first Apple tablet - was looking at the new 12.9" since the HDR sounds brilliant but thanks for the reminder that for people like me who isn't in the professional industry isn't necessary, just a nice to have. And 128GB is enough, at least for a tablet, since I'm not using like a phone to take a whole bunch of pictures and videos

Secretly Garry actually has the M1 iPad Pro in this video and that’s why he didn’t show the screen in the a roll 😂

No. I guess 256 GB it's a minimum for pad. Especially if you consider to work on it with heavy files.

I never owned an iPad but have an iPhone and been wanting to buy one to use for productivity now that I have a job and trying to study for a certificate. I was hoping the M1 chip iPad would be at a more reasonable price like around $300 - $500 dollars. Not over $2k! That is just absurd! I've had a vision years ago that the iPad would one day become as powerful as a Gaming PC and here we are with a powerful iPad going for the price of over $2k which is an excellent budget to use to build yourself an insane Windows Gaming PC plus enough money to spend for a desk setup and other peripherals! Seriously $2k? How can I get an M1 iPad for $3-$500?

"Stops video at 1:26 mark* 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 This is one of the main reason I love this channel. BASE MODEL COVERAGE. I feel the same way he does about truly judging tech based off the bare minimum specs. Also, it's a great way to learn how to add the RIGHT additions to your purchase. For instance, I've been looking at the current M1 MBA and MBP13, and one thing I've learned is invest in 16GB of unified memory. Putting base models through rigorous tests is a major benefit to the everyday consumer... That's why we like The Everyday Dad. *Presses play...*

Great video. I don’t completely agree with your take for the general consumer such as me, you are a YouTube-er and get multiple new iPads along with other gear every year or so. I’m upgrading from IPad Air 2 and won’t move on to another iPad for 5-6 years. The number of pictures and videos I’ve amassed is great and the 2TB is a first world convenience I welcome.

I ordered the 256 12.9, I think it’s the sweet spot for this iPad. 128 is way too low and for 100 bucks extra 256 is a good deal. 512 not worth the extra 200 since I can buy a 2 tab ssd with it instead if I want big memory.

Edit: also don’t agree 11 inch is useful than a 12.9 I see no reason to use 11 inch, 12.9 weighs virtually the same in the real world. Unless you’re doing bicep curls with it you won’t notice the difference especially ina. Backpack…

I think the flaw is in respects to space. Always upgrade your space 1 tier to ensure you don’t run into issues. 128gb is solid, however 256gb is the sweet spot for most people.

Base models are blind entry points.
