It’s rumored that Steven Seagal told casting directors and producers that he was an actual martial artist

The story with Lazenby had me thinking that instead of being an actor, he should have been a real spy, because that's pretty slick.

The movie Remo Williams featured a fictitious form of martial arts. When casting for the movie, the producers got tons of resumes from actors claiming to masters and black belts in that art. None got the part of course.

"Stop or my Mom will Shoot!" isn't that bad. It has some funny moments. And Arnie would always try to psych out his rivals back to when he was a pro bodybuilder, Sly should have known better (or read the script..)

Jerry Boyle, who played Garibaldi on Babylon 5 made up his acting resume. He was a lawyer before the role so... it was in his wheelhouse

I am always in awe of actors who learn to play an instrument well enough to be believable in a short amount of time. Even with the aid of editing “movie magic”, I am impressed.

For animal house mark Metcalf told casting directors he was a longtime horseback rider, he never rode a horse at all.

“Becoming Bond” is a very enjoyable documentary about the true story of George Lazenby’s unbelievable ascent from used-car salesman to leading man in one of the most high-profile movies in history; all based on a lie.

Another lie actors tell to get roles is their ability to operate various modes of transport. "I can drive like a stuntman", "I can ride a horse as good as Derby winners" and "I can fly a plane better than Sully". No you can't, no you can't and no you can't.
Another fib told for a movie part here or there, "I can do my own stunts." No you can't.
More specific example: Claudia Christian refused to do nudity after agreeing to play a stripper, nudity and all: The Hidden (1987). Infamously difficult actress Claudia Christian, well known for being about as easy to work with as Bruce Willis, was on the set of Jack Shoulder's follow-up to Nightmare on Elm St 2 with the 1987 action comedy horror movie The Hidden, starring Kyle McLaughlin, Michael Nouri and a certain actress. On the day of her shooting her STRIPTEASE act in the movie, she outright refused, grinding the production to a halt. (Btw, she also filled her bra on two different occasions, implying her breasts were much bigger than they were and lied about stripping ability. She was sent to Janet Jackson's choreographer for dance lessons; he called her "unteachable".) The money g-strimg was a compromise to getting what they needed from the notorious actress.

When The Whale Rider did an open casting at her school Keisha Castle-Hughes told them she could swim (which the role required quite a bit) and she nearly drowned the first day they shot a take in the water. But she was absolutely perfect for that movie.

I thought "How can Lazenby only be number 3?" and then I heard number 2... wow.

The bedt one I heard was Higgins from Magnum PI TV series in the 80s. Everyone thought the actor was British when he was actually from Texas. FYI, I believe his character was supposed to be British.

It's not a movie, but my favorite audition story is when Hugh Laurie tried out for the show House MD. David somebody, (I think he was the Director or Producer) had said he didn't want somebody with an accent playing the role. He watched Hugh's audition and said something along the lines of "Now that's what we need, a typical American actor." It would seem he was unaware of Hugh's large body of work, and the fact that he's BRITISH and was quite famous in the UK. He also has a lovely heavy British accent, but managed to adopt an American one for the audition. He got the part. 💙

It probably doesnt matter much for Hollywood people, but a lawyer once told me if I lie on a resume or during an interview it could later be used as grounds for termination AND the company can sue me for my salary, cuz I misrepresented myself. I asked the lawyer cuz a placement agency wanted me to lie in order to land a job.
