What monitor size to get for Ultra wide Monitors ? 34' vs 38' vs 49' (Benq/LG/Samsung)

Ultrawide monitors have become popular recently, they allow you to have more real estate while taking up less space than two monitors. But which monitor size is the best in 2022 ? The Benq MOBIUZ EX3415R VS LG 38WN75C VS SAMSUNG LC49RG90SSNXZA are good monitors for coding, movies, video editing and productivity. But there are drawbacks to all. In the video I mentioned that 34" is the most flexible size it offers the best value.

Thanks for the comparison. Covered most of the aspects i was looking for. I do believe as you concluded the 34-38" best setup.. 49 is just to wide to be consumed so close. This video helped me understand it visually.

Love the Ultra Wide setup. Will be looking to set up a new gaming desk setup next year too and this definitely gives me inspiration 👍

Thank you for highlighting your experience coding in a dark theme coding editor. The size monitor i buy will be used for writing code on a dark theme editor. That need to be excellent.😁. Great review I got everything I need and all my questions answered in less than 7mins👏👏👏👏

thx for the video! really nice comparison. made me choose the 35" inch lg over the 38" (which is more than 2x the price). I also do not have a lot of space on my desk and this gave me a realistic view of how it would be. thx!

Very useful video. One note, though... cut music volume in half. I struggled to hear your voiceover at many points

I have the 34" ultrawide and this is the max size I can bear.

I just wish there is an 1600p option at this size.

you should have tried the P40w-20 from lenovo. it's a 5120x2160 ~40" panel. monitor size alone is not enough because you need the correct resolution to go with it that makes it all ergonomic. in my coding productivity setup i split this monitor in 3 columns which gives me decent horizontal space for each window and 2160pixel worth of vertical, which is great for viewing code, lists and have windows that have a top bottom split like chrome + debugger. 40" is also ideal to avoid neck movement and makes the distance workable at an arm's length distance(recommended for ergonomics). i see you also have a thunderbolt dock there. that monitor includes a TB4 dock with plenty of power delivery to keep your laptop topped up and reduce cable clutter drastically!

Very nice review - thank you. I have to ask, how do you get your dock on the right side to scroll like that? Is that a dock alternative app?

I am on the other hand currently using a 34" (1440p) ultra wide monitor who's seriously considering a 32" 4K monitor for productivity. I used my current monitor for 4 years now and as developer I don't think 1440p is tall enough. Quite often I found myself scrolling up and down to navigate through my scripts which is not so convenient for me.

Some of the extra diagonal size can come from increased height (not width) which is great for productivity. Look for 1600 vertical instead of 1440. Professional panels were traditionally 16:10 instead of 16:9 (see Dell Ultra and Mac Book Pro for examples). An ultrawide version of a professional panel is (for example) 3840x1600.

Thanks for the video. I use two 27 inch monitors with thin bezels. Going to get a 49 inch because those bezels still bother me when using huge Excel spreadsheets and do other work related stuff. Sometimes I need to have three, four or more open windows and a 34 would be too smal.

Pretty good review man I like it. I prefer the 38 or 40 inch. I am on a 34inch now with a side monitor which I would love to get rid of.

I have an lg38 and while I love the ability to put a ton of windows on the screen I find myself reading email or web pages on the far left and it is noticeable in your neck after awhile. I have to make myself move windows to the other side to even it out. I'm happy with the purchase overall but if I was going to do it again I think I would go 34 with a second portable monitor under for other tasks. It does look beautiful on a desk though.

I couldn't stand the 34" as I was missing some size. The jump to 38" made productivity so much better for me.
I think it is different, when you had used 27" 1080p resolution before. If you have been using 27" 1440p, I think your conclusion would be different!

A large enough desk is something that needs to be considered as well.

how can you deactivate your macbook pro monitor when using an ultrawide, without closing the macbook pro lid? I want to use only the ultrawide screen but not use the laptop in clamshell mode as I don t want it to overheat...

Probably a setting that made the LG 38# colors etc. seem "washed out". Most users are very impressed but I have read about others that had to change the factory setting to avoid the effect.
