I've been learning Unreal. I'm a big fan of the physical shader on that. I plan to learn Unity after Unreal. Its interesting seeing how physics based shading is becoming the industry standard, even with motion graphics.

Why spread every other map out, but then hide the 'smoothness' map in the alpha channel of another texture?

Looks good, but it decrease FPS on mobile devices dramatically (in comparison diffuse shader and alpha cutoff)

Now if they would just expand the shader a bit more. Not supporting imported lightmaps and the ability to pick which UV channel is a bit of a pain, as now we have to write custom shaders to do this. The map supports backed global illumination, so its most of the way there already no?

If all previous built-in shaders are now regarded as "legacy", what about the particle shaders like additive and alpha blended? The doc lists those as legacy as well which confuses me.
