a 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Chinandega, Nicaragua. The tremor was recorded early morning on Thursday, July 28th, 2022, at 3:23 am local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 60 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.3.

Weak shaking might have been felt in Jiquilillo, located 38 km from the epicenter, Corinto, 56 km away, El Viejo, 60 km away, Chinandega, 63 km away, Chichigalpa, 73 km away, Leon, 88 km away, and La Union, 96 km away.
