So you are wondering whether you should update windows or not or are windows updates necessary? A lot of people block windows updates and you shouldn't. Its very important to install all the latest security updates to patch windows and fix security vulnerabilities. You can disable feature updates, but not windows security updates also known as critical updates.

I install security updates as soon they are out but when it comes to feature releases i usually wait little bit to see if they are good enough to install them

I update immediately when any update shows up be it feature updates or security updates

I allow auto-update with approval, I run a regular offline scan with Windows security, and I steer clear of sketchy sites. Why someone would install minimum updates with the CONSTANT threat of attack is beyond me, and sounds like a recipe for trouble.

I'm on Windows 11 PRO. Is there any way to allow me to select each update I want to install? I cna't see any, I miss this feature from older windows. I've managed to disable drivers in Group Policy. Delayed previews for 30 days. Max allowed. But but still get it.
But now way to disable Previews without clean install, which I won't do. But I'm forced to download it all and install it all. I've left the Preview Channel, but still get Preview build.
All of this is absurd.
I only updates when I know it's safe to update.

Wow, a lot of information here.
Would be useful if one actually showed what kind of vulnerabilities were really covered. Possibly there's a legitimate stuff, but might as well be a lot obscure exploits of some driver most people don't use, some internal VBA protocol only dangerous if one uses very specific Macro commands, that kind of stuff.
Windows updates, including the "security updates" seem more a or less a blackbox. Sure they publish a list with explanations, but is that really true? Has anyone actually audited what's inside these updates?

I only stick to security updates, for the moments. If i spot a new windows 10 release, i would also update features eventually.

My Windows 7 laptop gets Security Intelligence updates every day and a Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 update once every month.

Not quite true with Windows 7 updates - I still receive a few updates now and again, despite Microsoft saying that they were discontinuing support of that particular operating system. I use my old Windows 7 desktop PC as a back up just in case something goes wrong with my new(ish) Windows 10 desktop PC.

I use the same method as you do, I wait 2-3 weeks and see what issues people are having and if Microsoft has released an update for the update ... I also image my C: drive before an update because Window's roll back doesn't always work .... I skip the Latest Features and let someone else be the free beta testers .... They will come anyway in a month or two as part of a main update ... I also have driver updates turned off and those I do manually and get them from the manufacturer
