All sounds very sensible.
Once you've lost your job can we hope to see you as an MP in five years?

Steve Irwin, one of the greatest wild life conservationists, the legit type that PETA hates, was a great supporter of John Howard.

I'm a huge fan Daniel, but this is a bit disingenuous. As a point of fact you're correct, people in wealthy countries (who became wealthy because of capitalism), had sufficient comfort and space in their lives to start demanding policies which would give them a cleaner living environment and protect ecosystems and species that held their interest and sympathy. The means by which they did so however was government regulation. It's not a zero sum game. We can simultaneously argue for limiting regulation where it's harmful for the economy and entrepreneur, while still supporting regulations that prevent the Cuyahoga River from catching fire.

Lahore is in a capitalist country. But it is hindered by Islam and corruption. I think the Dan Hannan means pollution is less in Western-style Capitalist countries.

More specifically than just capitalism, it's strong property rights in natural resources that leads them to be conserved, especially when you're talking about living, reproducing resources. More than the wealth produced by capitalism, it's the incentives that lead people to be more cognizant of sustainability. Hence it can also be seen in developing countries that are still working on accumulating what we would consider relative wealth. The African nations that have tried the property rights approach to wildlife conservation in recent decades have found dramatically improved success in sustaining populations of endangered species like African elephants.

Counterintuitive though it might be, it's true: if you want more of a species, allow it to be legally owned and killed.

He doesn’t give any actual explanation or argument…

Just a bunch of assocations and the assertion “wealth gives people an incentive to treat their environment as a renewable resource”

I take your point but how many ancient woodlands will be destroyed if HS2 goes ahead?

Environmental issues are politically neutral surely ?

Obvious really, I mean just look at how the capitalist system conserved the natural habitat and abundance of the Bison in America, Cod in Canada, whales in British dependancies, eagles in Scotland....
The fact that Dan comments on seeing an otter is remarkable only in that it was practically extinct . It was only by government imposed restrictions that the otter has made even a tenuous return to Dan’s constituency.
First thumbs down for one of Dan’s videos.
