Personally, I find it pretty refreshing to see videos like this where someone is building a PC for themselves based off of their own requirements rather than trying to build something ridiculously powerful for the sake of it. Unfortunately it seems fairly common to receive a barrage of ridiculous comments for PC build stuff when you aren't using the most popular components to make an "extreme gaming rig" - I had the exact same when I made a video of upgrading my PC just over a year ago where I dared to reuse my video card, case and power supply which were all still perfectly serviceable for my needs. And don't even get me started on the typical ESD and thermal paste related ridiculousness! Also don't let them catch you with a slight sprinkling of dust inside the machine, everyone knows that you aren't actually supposed to use a PC to get work done, you are meant to spend your entire time keeping the inside completely spotless!

"Why did you use this not that??"
"Because thats what I wanted to use."

Noo you removed the socket plastic protection, you missed it poping out, it's part of the experience :)

As long as you're happy with it, it's fine.

Man you must have so many 4k editing PC's by now

Dave, you have no need to justify your purchases you make with your money. :D

Honestly most people just comment because they wish they had the dosh to build a PC and feel like they would have done differently. but you've built your PC around YOUR research, what was available and what makes you happy. How could you go wrong? Enjoy it mate

Good info. I built a rig four years+ ago and recently started messing with 4k. It bogs down when editing 4k. This gives me a great starting point as to which upgrades are most needed in my case. Thanks, Dave!

Nothing to apologize for purpose-building a PC without spending months researching the minute differences between parts. On a recent PC build, I needed a CPU with decent single-core performance and VA-API support (i3-7100, cheap MSI mobo, 8GB RAM, low-end PSU) and it works exactly as I needed it to. I'm sure if I posted it to the internet, people would have shit on it. I used to obsess over PC hardware when I was 16, but outgrew it once I had real things to put time into.

@EEVBlog I have been using the same silverstone PSU for 8ish years now with no issues! Computer never gets turned off.

How many times you going to post this?

There seems to be a Youtube vblogger using a x586 version of BeOS+UltraDV for making videos on.

I'm in a similar situation. I was considering a dual LGA 2011 system but the pcie lanes are an issue. Thinking seriously about an AMD 1900x or higher.

Fanstastic, this is how a business would prefer to get a computer build, as in when they task an employee to get one done, give a budget, only one supplier, items on hand, etc. Nice job

all decisions in life in every aspect involve compromise when the budget is involved. Great explanation Dave and thank you.

There's two other Threadripper CPU's with 8 and 12 cores that don't screw you out of PCIe lanes.. Both have 64 PCIe lanes.

Thanks for the video! I wonder why you didn't choose the linux OS instead of windows10.

I have the 7820x too, going to even an h110i corsair water cooler, will give you 25c-30c cpu core temps, about 45-50c under load with a CPU package temp staying well under 60c. I have one and love it.

If you like the SilverStone PSU, you should look at their cases. I have two of their cases that rotate the motherboard 90 degrees, and they are an absolute dream. All the external cables come out the top of the case, which turns out to be a HUGE benefit - I had no idea how convenient they'd be until I tried them. No more disconnecting everything, pulling the case out, and getting down on my hands and knees just to unplug/plug one cable - everything is right there on top.

Didn't know it was possible for people to "care" so much about someone else's build....

I used that same cooler for years, worked a treat, only lost 2c switching to an AIO water system (but i did have it push from the heatsink and pull from the rear fan)
