I really don't see the value vs money for this CPU the new next gen Threadripper will be arround the same price but will have 32c/64t now that's value for money but price for it is not out yet so let's wait and see.

Personally, if I needed this kind of CPU and the things it excels at I'd go with Threadripper at this point. Especially for the PCI lanes.

Also a £1650 CPU for gaming is massively overkill. Even an 8700K doesn't exactly get bottlenecked in anything on the market right now. Gaming as a secondary thing, fine, I'd rather have a dedicated second box for streaming if I did such things, or use the Threadripper set up as mentioned above.

i9 is a good CPU. If I were a millionaire, I'd use it

even though i use a 5960x at the moment, if i would have to choose HEDT AMD or Intel i would choose AMD for the reason that the amd 1950x 3, 4GHz with 16cores for 750€ is cheaper than the Intel i9 7960x 2, 8ghz with 16cores for 1500€. AMD also solders their heatspreaders.

I hear that high cpu cache and ram speed is great for elder scrolls and the modern fallout series. Rather specialised use of course! BTW great advice about that Dell VR HMD, it really is a solid pick.
