The loose cable to the "Paper clip thingy" is for a NFC reader. We have a similar one at work we use with employee ID cards. Means you don't have to log on with your credentials to have scans sent to your email etc.

Copier tech here, nice find. The thing with the battery is the memory for the machine settings, counter data, calibration, etc. Don't take the battery out! Those old resistive touch screens die all the time, replaced plenty. New ones are cap screens. As for the hard drive, the copies are not stored to the drive. They are stored in ram. The drive is for storing the e mail address book and repeat forms you print all the time. Those are always blank and never contain anything worthwhile. Most copier hard drives in the last 10 years are encrypted anyway.

(3:39) "Let's not muck around. Let's let straight into it", says Dave after mucking around and not getting straight into it for four minutes...

This video gave me flashbacks. I spent 37 years at Xerox servicing printers before I retired a couple years ago. We did very little component level repair in the field. We would have replaced the touch screen and moved on. Time was more expensive than parts. If we did not have a touchscreen in the truck then we might try to repair the board. Most of these parts were returned and repaired at dedicated workstations. This is a smaller printer but the large printers could pay thousands of dollars a year on service contracts. Those customers wanted the machine back up and running quickly. I have enjoyed your videos for years but of course, this one stood out to me. Thanks for the education you provide.

Maybe they should move the dumpster location to your lab? Saves the effort lol

I wonder if your neighbors watch your videos. maybe they sit in their office and discuss: Let's put this in the dumpster and see if he can fix it 😂

I had a similar VGA LCD display like this in a piece of similar equipment have the exact same washed out contrast issue and ultimately viewable from only one angle and barely at that. It was from bad electrolytics on the driver board that are part of the LCD display. Specifically, those crappy SMD aluminum can ones. Easy fix in my circumstance.

Had to go touch screen got a sunburn and your procedure fixed it. Haa not any tech currently working on them never would have done other than board swap and the part would have made the repair too expensive GOOD NICE JOB!!.

This massively cool video worked for me when trying to fix the same exact touch issue on a Xerox Workcentre 7345. A big thank you to EEVBlog for making this video. As far as i was able to see, the 7345 looks exactly like this machine on the interior.

I work with Xerox devices and this is branded a WorkCentre 7435 in Europe. Touchscreen issues were one of the most common faults. You've got the additional PS kit installed in that one, the chip labeled R1 so you're good to print from Mac's as well as PCs :).

Dave you should poke around that hard drive, try to hook it to a PC and see what's on it.

As a past copier technician that was a masterful piece of troubleshooting you never cease to amaze me. Component-level work is something of a lost art anymore all they do now is parts swap.
