Underground caves can be seen in many parts of the world because it is very difficult to know the presence of these caves by looking at ground level.

Human beings live on the ground level. It is difficult to for human beings to live under ground. Some animals like rats and some worms and may be some snakes live under the ground level.

Next, the caves present in underground level are carved in volcanic rocks or in normal rocks. In any case carving requires well sophisticated tools to carve underground caves because rooftop of the caves may collapse if care is not taken. The period when these caves were carved was several thousand years ago when our present civilization had no knowledge of electricity and other technology.

Keeping all these factors in mind, if we imagine how these carving were made, then, only the option left for us is to accept the view that 'aliens' have built them.

Second point is aliens can live in any place whether it is above the ground level or under the ground level. They can adopt to any place, unlike human beings who need a particular conditions to live. If human beings have to live under ground then they need many more facilities like airconditioner, ventilator, and fresh air and so on. Several thousand of years ago electricity was not known, so getting such facilities was impossible.

Further, for doing 'research' work, isolation is required because disturbance will hinder concentration on research work.. So many inventions were done while sitting in isolation or underground. So aliens may be doing some such research work by living in those underground caves.
