In this lore video for The Long Dark, I'm introducing you to the first survival mode NPC introduced in the Broken Silence update. Love the trader so far. Yes, trades work a bit slow with negotiating, dropping the supplies and then signaling on next aurora. But still gives something to do.

If the flashlights are old enough its inerds would consist of the battery, bulb and a line of copper running from the negative to the side of the bulb. The switch displacing the negative wire to disconnect it. No circuit boards. Nothing to fry.
As for the battery only working on aurora nights? ... game stuff

I'm curious if they're going to try and introduce him in episode 5 if I remember correctly in the promotional trailer for episode 5 there's a boat? I wonder if he might be the captain or something similar

Those radios you can use to communicate with trader, were probably distributed after the first flare. That would explain why they are not fried.
There is new note about them in Mystery lake Camp office.
