For those who don't know, Mavka is a "mermaid" from Slavic mythology
In Slavic tales they have many names depend on what Slavic nation we are talking about, they can be called mavka, rusaka, vila, mamuna and some more
They're considered to be nature spirits like nymphs in Greek mythology, but they usually come from drown young women, often suicides and heart broken
They're evil spirits they can drown a man searching for their beloved, call a young woman to lakes and swamps, so they drown and become one of them, in other stories they can tickle you to death or make you lost in the forest
Also they're connected with Slavic goddess Makosh or Mokosh who is considered to be a femine goddes, rituals in her are name usually committed near lakes or wells
