Homemade Sweet and Sour Chicken in 30 Minutes or LESS!

Today I'll show you how to make the perfect crispy chicken and how to make homemade sweet and sour sauce so tasty that you will want to make a double batch - that's what we did ;)

Ingredients:
Crispy Fried Chicken:
• 5 tbsp vegetable oil
• 2 eggs lightly beaten
• 3 tbsp cornflour/cornstarch
• 10 tbsp plain/all-purpose flour
• ½ tsp salt
• ½ tsp pepper
• ½ tsp garlic salt
• 2 tsp paprika
• 3 chicken breast fillets chopped into bite-size chunks
Sweet and Sour Sauce:
• 1 tbsp vegetable oil
• 1 large onion peeled and chopped into large chunks
• 1 red pepper chopped into 1 inch pieces
• 1 green pepper chopped into 1 inch pieces
• 2 cloves of garlic peeled and chopped/crushed
• 1 tsp minced ginger
• 9 tbsp tomato ketchup (check it's a gluten free version if you're gluten intolerant)
• 2 tbsp malt vinegar (replace with cider vinegar for gluten free)
• 6 tbsp dark brown muscovado sugar
• 475 g can of pineapple chunks in juice
To Serve:
• Boiled or fried rice
• 1 tsp sesame seeds

This has got to be one who has the best look and presentation. As an Asian from Malaysia who is currently on lockdown due to Covid-19, this is the recipe I need. Stop searching for sweet and sour chicken recipe because this is it!! This is it!

I'm cooking this recipe for dinner tonight and ordering ingredients for quite a few more for the coming week. You are direct to the point, your methods are easy to follow, the ingredients for the sweet sour sauce are very resourceful (almost everything can be acquired in the pantry) and you have a calming presence.

I cooked this tonight and it was a big hit.

It's amazing that although the sauce is mostly ketchup, it really tastes like proper restaurant sweet and sour. In fact, think I like it more than the restaurant kind because I find the restaurant kind can be a bit too "sour" for my liking, whereas this one is mostly "sweet".

Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to coat the chicken pieces as it seemed to take me ages. I think it took me about 10 - 15 minutes to move about 30 pieces through all 3 stages of coating.

Once you've added rice this definitely serves 4 as promised, although it would also serve 3 large adult portions if you were particularly hungry.

Omg I made this last Saturday, I made it for my dinner, I couldn't stop eating it soon as I tasted it. My husband has a terrible diet "eats hardly anything" he wouldn't try it, I raced through to my neighbour, he loved it. Your recipes are delicious and easy to follow. Thanks Nicky xx

Just made the sweet and sour chicken better then takeaway. Well I followed the recipe to the letter and what a brilliant dish. Hubby told me never getting a takeaway ever. I loved it so did he. Thank you for sharing it with us.

This is really a great recipe! I like how you did it all, simple, not too overcomplicated! Turned out great! For my taste, it was too much sugar, so I take half the sugar, since the pineaple ist also really sweet. I used frozen pineaple and that also worked great. I'm totally gonna check out your other recipes. Thank you for sharing this!

Made this today was lovely although I'd actually recommend dropping out most of the ginger if you want it to taste like a takeaway version. shop bought sweet and sour sauces always taste of ginger where takeaways usually wont. Still loved it this tho !
