Stilgar looked exactly how I imagined him. Perfect casting. Javier Bardem killed it with what time he had.

When I was watching this movie for the first time with my friends, I said,

"I like that guy." As soon as Stilgar walked away. Not 3 seconds later, Gurney said,

"I don't like him."

We all died laughing. Love this film so much.

I really like how the Duke is portrayed here.
He is a consumate diplomat. Allowing an armed man into his presence showing he is both formidable to allow it and respectful of the culture he is treating with. The Duke tells Stilgar that he will not pursue hostilities with his people, but makes it clear that he is in the position of strength.

He is a Good man, but still dangerous.

Man, look at him. Going from a leader who stood shoulder to shoulder, unafraid, with duke leto....to being an absolute fanatic who grovels before the very presence of his son.

Josh recognized Javier, even without his weird haircut... Hence the hate.

Stilgars whole body movement and communication is interesting, when he first arrive he's obviously not very fond of being at the Duke’s place and simply wants to get what he sees as a fruitless conversation over with as he walks in fast and without care for others. He gives his moisture not in good spirit but merely because he must in order to follow tradition. He first is confrontative towards the Duke as he believes him and his house to be just like the previous subjugatord but as soon as he gets a better understanding of who the Duke Leto is he turns less antagonistic and even gives him what I think would be a rare compliment coming from Stilgar to an offworlders. Overall I loved this scene and I wish it was longer.

"Honor requires that I be elsewhere" - a powerful line - he acknowledges Pauls offer to stay and declines, not because he is unthankful or does not want to, but because he must attend to the needs of his people. Stilgar is a leader who puts the needs of his people first, through and through

I got chills in the theatre, when Stilgar said he recognised Paul and what that simple statement implies.

Stilgar almost certainly knew spitting would be offensive to non-Fremen; he did so in response to Leto's promise to "respect the dignity of men who respected [his]", to test how receptive and flexible Leto would be concerning his people. By spitting he offered both respect and provocation; that Leto reacted with restraint proved that he was wise enough to either A) Recognize the gesture as respectful based on context, or B) Have the patience to learn whether it was disrespectful before taking full offense.

Thufir reached his hand out to restrain the Duke likely because he already knew that the spitting was a Cordial Greeting in Fremen Culture while studying them to prepare for their arrival on Arrakis.

The amount of little details in this film is astounding.

Duke Leto's plan would've been nothing short of a total success for both his House and the Fremen. If only he had more time and resources.

I watched the film first and I’m currently reading the book - I beg you all, please buy and read the book too. I have never been so compelled by a book. Especially *after* having seen the film first. It is truly incredible.
