I read this one several years ago and don't know what I would think after re-reading nowadays, but I really liked it back then. I think the two of them, Talisman and Black House, are great books, and I will even risk to say that I prefer them over The Dark Tower series 🙊

I read this book when I was in my middle teens. Could not stop reading. One of the best books ever as I remember it. Should read it again.

I’m glad I read this book for the tower connections and Wolf was great. However it still is a tough pill to swallow and you almost have to just absorb it rather than go line by line because you’ll go insane if you try that.

I'm curious to start it. I've held it off for like 15 years now. Never know unless you take the plunge. Let's see if I like it

The Talisman and it’s sequel “The Black House” are in my opinion Stephen King’s and Peter Straub greatest work !!!!

I'm halfway through it now. Not at all what I was expecting a King-Straub colab. Had to restart it a couple of time to get into it. But I am enjoying it! I find Jack's travels quite entertaining.

Is Wolf actually Tom Cullen? If so, where is that revealed? Or do you say “basically” because he’s sort of simple?

I just finished this one myself. I don’t know that I’d say I “hated” it, but I agree with a lot of what you shared here. Wolf and the sequences with him were the best parts of the book. The rest of it was just not that interesting. The opening drug on forever, the scene at the palace was great but then we didn’t really see any more of the medieval aspects of the Territories again, and I wasn’t impressed at the end by the climax of the story. This is firmly in the “average” tier for me.

I've read it a couple of times. Made the bad decision to lend it to someone who wouldn't return it, then looked for it through the years and eventually found it again. Many parts of it grew in me all along. I love Wolf, that part of the planets, that other part with the winged men in the tower (Rainbow!!), when Richard wants to hold it (it's like Gollum not letting the ring go), so many images that stuck for good... Bah, I realize it's not for everybody, but I did enjoy it.

I just finished the book. I don't understand why you hate it so much. It might be boring in some parts, but after he meets 🐺 the book is a very fun adventure. Well, now I'm gonna watch your order video for the dark tower to see what's next

I clicked Like even tho I felt it was a great book, I appreciate your honesty. I really go all in for King's coming of age tales, its one of his best writing abilities to me, and this book had it in spades..the whole tween concept of growing up too fast, the fierce bonds of friendship with Wolf, Loss, I even liked the character of Farren. And when he enteres his Mother's room with the Talisman and it begins doing what it was made for, I cried as a kid, and now when reading it, cause thats what got my Mom, and Id have done it too.

Although it's not my favorite King book. I am quite interested to see the perspective the duffer bros in the last season of straner things and how they incorporate the story of this book :)

Hopefully Spielberg and King change it up a little better toward The Tower on the upcoming series or movie...well find out.

I think if there is any major reason to read The Talisman, it would only be in order to fill in certain key elements for someone that is reading the Dark Tower series, particularly with the third book in the series, The WasteLands.

The Talisman is my favorite of Kings books and I literally got caught crying, by my mother, when a certain character dies. Its been 35 years since I read this book and being that I've kept most of my King books, I'm going to locate it and start reading tonight.

Least favourite?

A year or two before the pandemic, I listened to the audiobook of The Talisman with my son. Really strong, positive memory.

I have every single SK book there is. This is one of those books I've tried to read 3 times & it just starts so slow. King does tend to ramble alot, but I guess this one is just so slow to start with that I can't get into it. I've had the same issue with Bags Of Bones..
