this is such a good point that I don't think the majority of atheists truly consider. One of my best friends was an atheist and he would refuse any idea of objective morality, simply because that's the natural honest conclusion of an atheistic worldview. But at the same time, he would still often criticize the God of the Bible and angrily accuse Him of doing wrong. The idea of holding the position that wrong doesn't exist, but still accusing others of "wrong" is obviously a problematic contradiction, but still you see it expressed that way a lot these days.

I think true right and wrong is found only in God, and that its consistent with His very nature. Without an objective standard that comes from a source that is greater than man, I don't think any man-made morality could ever be deemed objective, but only always subjective. Very interesting post!

So refreshing to know I am not the only one that has thought about this.

The reason why people know what it just world is like is because Christians Muslims and most other religions believe that there is a perfect God who can do anything. So why would God allow suffering? We've all suffered so we know what that's like and we can compare it to our idea of a perfect world that an all-powerful God can create.

fairly easy question. many of our modern day morals come from pure instinct. noone wants to be killed, have things stolen from them, randomly assaulted, etc. all survival instincts. ideas of good and evil stem from these instincts.

This works unless you critique Christianity using its own morals. You don’t have to come up with your own definition of “just” and “unjust”. You use the definitions given by Christianity and then show unjust actions that God does in the Bible to present a contradiction.

For example, Jesus says the greatest commandment is to love God fully and to love your neighbor as yourself. However, we see in Leviticus 25:44-46 that God keeps the foreign slave trade legal in the Old Testament. To resolve this you must somehow rationalize that purchasing foreign slaves and keeping them as “property” per that passage is somehow loving them “as yourself.” Only someone who desperately wants to be purchased as a slave could ever say that this practice would be loving them “as yourself.”

Thus, the Leviticus 25:44-46 teaching is unjust according to the Bible’s own definition per Jesus’ teaching.

Calling something ‘evil’ just means you have a definition of evil. Doesn’t prove anything outside of that.

You only need a definition of what a crooked line is to know if it is crooked.
