Zubat seems like a pretty good pick and the only issue is that it’s obtainable before you even reach the first gym in BDSP although you have to go through jubilife city before you catch one

Out of all early route birds, only pidgey and pidove lines really make sense as normal types. Maybe starly and staravia too, but not staraptor.

Dude, Hoothoot/Noctowl is a great addition to have for Morty's gym foresight allowed it's normal Type moves to hit it's one of the pokémon I make sure to bring in regular Playthroughs of Johto for that purpose.

I would choose my favourite flying type: Talonflame

Looking at this short, I realized the game has been pretty inconsistent across the nine generations so far, with its starters.

In gen 1, you got the Bulbasaur line that's dual-type with Poison in all stages, the Charmander only gets a secondary as Charizard, and Squirtle stays only Water-type all the way.

- All three Gen 2 starters stay singular type;

- Sceptile doesn't get a second type, while the others get their secondary at stage 2;
- Monferno is the only one to get its secondary early;

- Pignite is the only one to get a secondary at all;
- Gen 6's is pretty consistent across the board, all getting theirs at the end;

- Rowlet is the odd one out, getting a Flying secondary, but then changes to Ghost as Decidueye, while the other two only gain theirs at the end;

- Gen 8 follows Gen 2, all single types;

- and Gen 9 follows Gen 6.

For those saying crobat is also a good option: crobat evolves by friendship, meaning that if you get too fond to it then it might evolve too early at the moment it becomes a Golbat (happened to me in L:A, i had a crobat at the moment i arrived at the marsh)
