For those of you who've never had puffball, I like to call it "tofu of the woods". Bland by itself, but really good at absorbing whatever flavors you cook it with. Great find!

I remember few years back after my wife died, I was left alone with 3 kids. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with bipolar. Not until a friend recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment changed my life for better. I can proudly say i'm totally clean for 6 years and still counting. Always look to nature for solution to tough problems, Shrooms are phenomenal.

Hey folks, don't go foraging puffballs yourself or honestly any mushrooms if you don't know what you're doing. They can look really similar to several other mushrooms that are deadly like death caps or destroying angels.

If you are foraging please make sure to ID the mushrooms using at least 3 different identifiers before you decide to eat it. There is also probably a local ecology or foraging org that you can contact to be sure.

So much fun adventuring with Dad. I’m 63 and Dad’s almost 84 now. I wish we could still do these kinds of things. 😢

Just a reminder to everyone to be careful when foraging mushrooms when you're not experienced in the field. Giant puffballs are typically a safer route, because there are no other white mushrooms that get to that size before opening & are completely white on the inside. Puffballs have no gills, no stipe (stem), and have a bread-like texture inside. If your puffball is not completely white on the inside, do not eat it.

My mother used to make it when we go our granny's house....you can cut it into chunks then mix with some turmeric, chill powder, salt and lil bit of onion garlic ginger paste...then wrap it using pumpkins big leaves....then grill it to fire place until 20 mins...trust that taste perfect...no oil, butter anything 😊

I've used these in several different recipies. My favorite is using the puffball as a pizza crust, fry and season it and then add your toppings

Puffballs are some of the most delicious mushrooms I've had. I believe there aren't any toxic ones. There are toxic earth balls though. The difference is the internal texture. Puffballs that are good to eat are uniformly white and smooth inside. Then they go increasingly orange or green and squishy until they dry out into an orange brown or green dust. Earthballs are a chaotic mess of white and dirt like sections. Don't eat those.

EDIT: I Forgot to say, if there's any white gills inside, chuck it where not even dogs can get it and thoroughly wash your hands, your knife and your chopping board, and anything that's come in contact with it, as it could be an unopened deathcap mushroom. Absolutely deadly those are. If there are other coloured gills, who knows what it is, treat it the same unless you know better.

If I saw those crunchy puffballs and someone would tell me it’s chicken, I would absolutely grab all of it

To get the rubbery texture out, start the pan on a hot setting. Cut it down by half WHEN you put them in the pan! It will break them down better.

Been foraging these since I was a kid (from upstate NY), and one of my mom’s favorite recipes to make was “puffball popcorn.” Cut it into small pieces and fry in your preferred oil (you could modify it to make a popcorn chicken alternative I bet 😊).
