There's nothing wrong with the auto trans. the DSG box is one of the best out there. Her negative comments were probably due to user error. The shifts are extremely quick and positive. Nothing wrong with the manual either.

This is the only video review of a GTI that complains about the DSG DQ250 fitted to the Mk 5/6/7. Hesitant to change gears, slow. I can't believe it, now it feels like she has been living in the jungle for years.

The DSG 6 speed DQ250 is slick and smooth, downshifts and upshifts very quickly. Reliably proven as well. Get the manual if you want more involvement, but to complain the DSG6?

the gearbox VW DSG has a lot of problems of reliability and after the warrenty it costs a lot of money to repare it .

Literally never heard anyone diss the dsg like that before. Heard literally the opposite comments countless times

A very good car the Mk7 Golf GTI is, but if it were my money i'd wait until next year for the new Honda Civic Type-R.

Excellent review. My 07 GTI has 248, 000 km on it and still drives excellent. My DSG tranny has been excellent.

When she was talking about the automatic, was she talking about the DSG? Or, do they spec it differently in the UK? I've always heard that VW's DSG was excellent.

I think the problem with the GTi and the fact of the overbearing safety systems may reflect the buyer age-group. For example my dads brother has just ordered himself one at the age of 62 and that was based on driving a 2013 GTi belonging to his buddy. And he's not the only one!

I live close to a bowling green which is a gathering place for some of the areas retired folks and amongst the Honda's and Toyota's there usually 4 or 5 GTi's. Why else would they offer an automatic, because who else would want an auto regardless of what letters they stick on it in a hot hatch?

What grade of gasoline is best for this engine? 87? 89? 91?

She states the automatic as a 6 speed and she didnt say if it was DSG so who I do not have experience of driving a Golf, however in UK we have DSG 7 speed fitted in the Polo. So, if any reader wishes to know more of actual experience with a DSG then read on. In my 18 months experience of driving a VW Polo 1.4 litre Match I find the car to be superbly fuel efficient (for a petrol), certainly better than my previous 3 years of Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 litre Club. I am not saying the Corsa was bad because it was not, however I would think it no better than average in the class. Also the Polo is 'nippier' and smoother than the Corsa which was noisier and could be a bit of a noisy slug. So, regards the Polo:
PROS - comfortable seating without the excessive body-roll as I've found common with French mainstream cars (Citroen and Renault for sure); very fuel efficient; spacious enough for its class; smooth for a small engine; nippy; good road holding; solidly built; badge presence.
CONS - the gearbox is smooth enough but not the best I've driven (Kia Ceed; Hyundai i30 and Mazda 2 autos noticeably better); 'notchy' when from neutral and then I am engaging 'drive' causing me to have to look down to see what I am doing.
Would I have another??? The car is definately not perfect. It's not the most exciting to look at, even a little dated in this regards, the gearbox is 'notchy' when at a standstill and engaging drive. So I would have to answer this way "I would not get another Polo straight away without checking out others first, however the Polo is a very sound all rounder with an upmarket feel inside, feels solidly built, is spacious enough, has the presence and appeal of being a VW".
