This was both entertaining and scary as hell at the same time.

I caught an edge at the peak of a large jump once... Just remember looking up at the sky and seeing my board and boots.... Landed on my back.

A little note on the early edge change: if done right, it's actually a proper carving technique, but requires a lot of speed and hella control

Caught an edge about 10 times yesterday practicing my switch riding. After years of riding regular it’s definitely humbling feeling like a beginner again.

Trying to learn switch and you helped me realize an issue I am having. I am an early turner. Will have to remember to ride flat in the transition between edges. Was so automatic when riding regular.

Ed, you’ve unlocked a mystery I’ve had for a season. Guilty of being an “early turner” especially on steeper, narrower runs, now I know I must go flat base first. Great video… also, you’ve given me a chance with the “scorpion” during my runs. Anyway, I hope I can shred much cleaner this season!

I would add additional type: Forgetful carver. This is when rider didnt realize his board starts to slide (due to slushy snow or wrong edging) and do early edge change. Kind of same as first type but different prerequisites and more spectacular result

I stuck a heel edge into a bump I didn't see on Saturday. First real crash in a while. I managed to roll off my shoulder backwards rather than smashing my head but ended up in sort of a log roll until I caught my tail in the snow and loaded it up. That kicked me into the air unexpectedly and I pretty much did an ollie-to-bellyflop. Somehow got from partway-scorpioned to getting my shoulder under (steep hill helped) and landed on my heel edge. Edshreds (and a lot of neck/core work this year) probably saved me from a pretty bad injury.

Caught my heel edge last weekend, didn't give my board quite long enough to chill on flat base before turning when I was on my first blue run. Patience is a virtue LOL. Thanks for the great content, very helpful vid. :)

Last season when I was completely not paying attention I did lazy turn, went into to a scorpion, blacked out for a second, then found myself on my feet again, and just played off like I meant to do that.

Great bud, love the transparency that you too have been a victim. Part of the learning process. Thanks for the coaching.

I live life on the edge, and then the other edge.

The scorpion is complete when you hit the back of your head with the board...

Toe edge, tried to straighten out on pure ice, instead caught edge and knees hit ice directly! My son has scorpioned...didnt know the human body could do that!!

Lol i can link turns but sometimes when theres between enough snow and powder, i become an early turner (especially on hard runs). My friends love to bring me on diamonds (this is my second season snowboarding) and when i have to link fast between heel to toe, my snowboard gets caught up in the snow and i cant turn. I wish i was less stressed out

Caught an edge recently and didn't control the tumble. I caught another edge on the way down and stopped my legs, but not my body. Tore my retinaculum in my knee. Third day in the season and my last day.

why do early turner catch an edge, and in carving tutorials there is part that calls for an early edge change? what is the difference, why there is no edge catche in early edge change while carving? i still did not progress so far so I am just curios about the difference. Thanks

I've been falling victim to the early turn edge catch recently. I've been working on starting my turns earlier and with some aft-to-fore pressure and I think I'm just sending my hip out over my new edge too early

My Dad (never did a trick on snowboard) caught the scorpion and somehow did a front flip instead of crashing! It was so pog . . . Then he caught corona

What about the going straight and back foot starts to go back and forth really fast then clips one of the edges?
