Back in the early years of truck pulling there suppose to have a system called a air knife that cuts off the intake.

Had a 892 Detroit run away with me in a 80 ft crew boat once, we stuffed a seat cushion into the intake .

And thats why a CO2 fire extinguisher is considered mandatory by many diesel techs. Unloaded into the intake, that engine wouldve calmed down and shut off in seconds.

I seen a runaway where a guy fired a c02 extinguisher into the turbo inlet. Took several seconds but she shutdown

What a great engine to take that. For non diesel people the engine fires with pure pressure so no ignition to turn off like a gas engine.

They should have hydraulic intake shutoff. It’s required on any of the Diesel engines in the oilfield in case of a runaway from gases in the air.

WTF happened to the emergency air shut off slider valve on the turbo. Time to inspect those sliders better!

Why an intake cutoff is not standard equipment on every diesel is beyond me.

All of'm should have an emergency air inlet door to shut if needed. Old 8V92's had'm and they worked.

You should always have a way to shut off the air supply to a diesel engine.
