PD Trigger Warning!

Use your USB power bank with PD/Power-Delivery port to operate your radio. With a "PD Trigger" module we can trick your battery into providing 12 volts at 20 watts. This is a new ultra-light power solution for your summits-on-the-air and solar-based backpacking trips.

You can now buy ready-made USB-C PD cables with boost converter built in now. I have several and use them to source power in two different cases, from a USB PD battery pack or wall charger. This is able to provide me with 12VDC fo a barrel connector to the IC-705 up to the full operating power (including 10W transmit).

I also have in the works a cable/power conversion setup to run the IC-705 from one of the pro V-Mount battery packs used for pro video and lighting applications that have built in D-Tap accessory ports which can provide power to run a radio such as the ic-705 for days.

Love your channel, Craig.

Thanks Craig, I walk my Dalmation everyday and your solution is just what I was thinking about. Dalli's always walk with their tail vertical just waiting for a foil antenna to be mounted on it. Come to think of it it add a small saddlebag and she could be an APRS-K9 Mobile. Keep up the Bumper Music too.

lol i run my extra fridge off usbc from a 65w gan wall charger. runs into a 5s lipol powerbank which runs around 20v, and then supplys about 20vdc to the fridge. its one of those 54 liter 12/24v dc fridges for cars but i put all my drinks in there and it waitfor it... 115wh/day. i figure its so efficient if it keeps me from opening my regular fridge more than once per day it probably ends up saving power overall since its so efficient. i wrapped it in aluminum foil tape to reduce the thermal emissivity. i am finding so many uses for usb-c

Craig I used a adafruit board that let me charge D74 from any usb C PD device including batteries.

you can push 45watts when doing 15volts, but have to be careful of hardware's voltage tolerance and not all PD chargers and power banks support the 15volt output standard

I made up an MT3608 boost converter for 12.0 volts exact for my QMX Qrp rig ...maybe i, ll try one of these also The QMX draws 1.0 amps which is the limit of the mt-3608 I like a little headroom when i can get it, .Not that the 3608 has a problem but will try one of these just for giggles.73' jim KB1PFL

Deans... old school rc guy I'm guessing. I have a few ziplock bags full of deans ultras since I recently switched to xt60 (because modern chargers and lipos all use xt60 anymore). I'm local... let me know if you need some more Deans for your experiments lol.

Aren't this battery banks using some form of buck/boost converter to produce the desired voltage? I doubt they use linear voltage regulators. So how clean they are with be hit and miss,

For a buck you could have bought a PD Trigger off AliExpress with DIP switches instead of micro soldering ;)

Already said in the live chat, but make sure your source is PD and actually supplies the higher voltages.

I tried this but only got 9v from a 12v trigger. Good reminder, I have since acquired more PD sources (with up to 20V), so I need to try the triggers again.
