Be sure to run the head drain hose to a floor drain or utility sink. As the water softener recharges (usually at night) it dumps a lot of water! I didn't get that in the video... (ask how I know)

Really nice video and explanation but I do contest the placement of the softener and the resultant house coverage.

You have suggested in a few comments that only the heater really needs softened water and while the heated water does create more of an issue, it is really not the only hard water culprit. Calcium will build up on any surface once hard water is allowed to dry so even your cold water fixtures will be affected...shower roses, garden sprayers, kitchen water filters, refrigerator water lines etc. There are a LOT of benefits of having softened water for your coffee maker, water kettle, car washes and MANY other household tasks that feed off cold water lines.

I would therefore generally recommend installing the softener at the entry point to the house and after any sprinkler system but before any other branches in the house supply line.

Good job! If you havn’t already...I would program the regen at 2 AM so the water pressure doesn’t drop when using the shower or the kitchen sink...unless you have really good pressure.

9 ads made this a hard watch but I made it through.

I notice my brine tank doesn't fill at all when connecting water; but it does when I manually kick off recharge so I guess it's ok. The water is definitely soft though--the gross taste is totally gone! Thanks for the guide.

I appreciate the video it's going to help me a lot the only thing I question is that plug being so close to The water source should be a GFI/GFCI plug simple way fix
The alternative will shock you...literally lol

Wouldn’t you need to shutoff main water supply before cutting it. Nm. You got to that finally. Was wondering if you were about to have a flood

Also you cannot attach the two drain hoses. One must go to a drain. The overflow one can go to like a 5 gallon bucket. But you can't use a T connect to connect them to the drain hose since the recycle will just pump into the overflow hose and cause your unit to spill over.

The pipe you cut, you said that was the supply for the water heater. Does that mean only the hot water pipes in the house are soft?

You can't just add a pan under your water heater. The pan has a drain connection that needs to be piped to the outside of your house. That 2" deep pan will only hold maybe 4 gallons of water, actually less since there's a hole in it that the piping connects to it. You have to figure out a way to pipe outside from the room your heater is in. If it's on the first floor and on an outside wall than it's just a matter of drilling an 1"1/4 hole for the pipe... usually cpvc or pvc is used.

Hi.. I have the same water softener installed by plumbers. After installing it however, they just left? Didn't explain how to get it to start filtering. Im left with a water softener that only has salt in it and I have no idea what to do next. From watching your video my understanding is that I have to add water via bucket?
Thanks in advance

Might be a stupid question but do you have to shut off the main water supply thats in ground?

My question is, if I install the water softener at the water heater doe sent that mean that only my heated water will be softened but not my cold?

Does water stay in the softener after recharge is complete?
My salt level is 4 and water level in it is 6.?
Does water need to drain completely after recharge?

From my experience, I would think that loop supplies hot and cold. Maybe not

You can get what’s called a curb key at Lowe’s for about 15 bucks to shut your main water supply off
