I’ve heard that hissing isn’t a voluntary action, and rather more of an instinctual one, so I imagine she was probably mostly stressed out about being removed from her usual territory and into one that smells like another cat’s territory

I think overall, cats remember other cats and people. My mum had a stray she took in but he was very agressive with her cats so she had him adopted through a rescue. Three years later the owner wanted her to take him back as he was sick and it was "too much for her". When my mum showed up he went out of his hiding spot, ran to her and yelled like his life depended on it. He rubbed himself to her legs and tried to climb on her lap when she crouched to pet him.

Cats definetely remember their offsprings and their parents. I remember my cat Mia was so happy to see her mom again and her mom was so happy to see her daughter too. I made Mia's mom a promise that Mia will always be loved and cherished and still to this day after moving to another country and relocating to another city we are still a small happy family.

My cat forgets his brother sometimes… and they live together. Haven’t spent a day of their lives apart, but they come back from the vet trips (which they go to together) and the fluffy little idiot is hissing at this “strange cat” that he has know his whole life.

I think they remembered each other, Banana was just stressed out being in a new place so she was being a typical spicy calico

I think Banana might have been overstimulated being in someone else’s home, which may be why she started hissing at you too.

I've tried reuniting my cat with her daughter. She remembered her and looked so sad when her daughter hissed at her. :( The kids don't remember, but the mama's do. They care and love for them even after separation.

Mom was totally into the reunion! You have to commit to stay longer and do more reunions. Make it a regular thing!Take a few napkins or towels with Mom's scent and place them around your home. Keep the feliway plugged in at home and during reunions. Banana will become comfortable as her sibling did after she was spayed.😊❤🐈🤸🏽‍♀️🌟🎉

Not all cats have the temperament to be traveling/leaving their territory.
I learned this throughout having cats for 8 years, I have lived closely with 6 different cats & each have reacted vedy distinctly.
Only two have been open to experiencing new spaces & they were both 2 years old at the time.
All others no matter what age would begin to feel defensive & hiss at myself & our other cats.
I also tried to bring my first two cats back to their mom for a visit, and the mom was very inquisitive & seemed to recognize her children, but my cats were hissing & hiding from her.

I'm just glad I'm not alone with naming my cats after fruits. I've got a whole fruit salad! Banana, Cherry, Mangosteen, Plum, Melon, Apple, Berry and Guava.
