When you domesticate a cat, they recognise you as family more than their own mother and siblings. Some 30 years back a cat came to our garden with her 3 kittens. I used to feed her tuxedo kitten and she left him behind with us. He grew up with us and never missed his mama.

If Kurt could meet his mom, her scent would tell him right away who she was, and vice versa. If that ever happens, it would be a really sweet moment.

Yes, though he didn't express as much as other cats would've, he still showed sadness and love through his eyes and body gestures.

I don’t want to burst everyone’s bubble in the comments, but when cats are reunited with their mother after being separated for a time, it’s very unlikely they would recognize them, even through scent. My two cats are siblings and we tried to reunite them once when they were still young with their mom and other sibling who lived with my mother-in-law and as soon they were put in the room together, the mom hissed at them and tried fighting right away.😳We had to separate them real quick. 😅 She wanted absolutely nothing to do with them and it was so sad because we all thought it was going to be some heartwarming family reunion lol. 😭😭😭
