Rope ends will eventually fray even if they were cut with a hot knife or if you burnt the end of the rope. The best way to ensure the tails of your rope stay neat and tidy is to whip the ends.

If you want to take your finish to the next level then take the time too added a loop to the end of the rope. In addition to stopping the end of the rope from fraying it gives your halyards the added benefit of having a built in mousing loop that allows you to easier replacing or remove your halyards for the winter with a mousing line.
