This is so convenient, no press or c-clamp needed! Props to Honda for making it easier for the 8th Gen Civic, the previous gen was such a hassle.

Do you need to press the new ball joint in place? Or is it enough to tighten the nut to the right torque?

Is it easier to replace the control arms and ball joints at the same time? Is there a control arm video for this? Is there a particular order if I were to replace both control arms and ball joints?

It's $50 for a new ball joint or $80 for the entire LCA and Ball Joint. So I just replaced the entire thing. Both sides. 2012

You guys didn’t even mention the alignment everyone’s going to need after doing this. Lol

Would have liked to have seen a full control arm replacement done

What is the make/model of the ball joint separator used here?

If you notice this video gets paused before the new ball joint is installed. That is because it is nearly impossible to install using this method . At first this video gave me confidence but after changing it like this it was definitely very difficult without removing the knuckle

If you are going to do this at home in your garage or driveway, start spraying the fasteners with penetrant daily for a few days prior to the job. Kudos to Honda for the bolt-on design. But the upward-facing castle nut is questionable.

Instead of a ball joint separator or pickle fork(I’m poor and stores closed rn), I used a big file and the jack to apply leverage. All you need is a little constant pressure on the top of the ball joint bolt and then repeatedly hit the casing with a hammer.
(My file broke off at the end first time, so I applied less pressure second time and kept banging and then gave jack a little more pump, and alternated back and forth.)

I'm using an oem ball joint separator (27308) for my 06 civic si and it's not fitting as easily due to the axle. Is there a particular ball joint separator you are using?

Best to get the ball joint, with grease fitting so you can service them in the future.
Great video 😎

My Honda keeps jerking to the left or right whenever I brake. Could this be the problem or is it the alignment?
