Ooh you’re really making me want to reread Charlie Bone, I think I only got to book four as a kid and although I don’t remember much, I do remember them very fondly.
I always find myself returning to children’s literature when going through a hard time because they can be so comforting.

I read Gingerbread after seeing your video reading and reviewing it & I loved it! I definitely think theres an aspect of having to read it with suspended belief and not trying to "understand" what's going on. The writing was beautiful and I thought the way she explored family and space and belonging was wonderful!

My top reads for the month...
Angie Cruz / Dominicana- recent release, excellent novel re the immigrant experience
James Welch / Winter in the Blood - brilliant understated modern classic (1974) by a necessary NDN writer
Helen Oyeyemi / White Is for Witching - enjoyed more than loved

For what it’s worth from an old NDN, the more natural color both looks good and seems to fit your vibe - moving away from fast fashion, etc

Thanks for another interesting video!

LOVE THE NEW HAIR YOU LOOK STUNNING (as always)

How does virtually every haircolour suit you? Both lighter and darker hair look great on you, even though I must admit pastel pink was my favourite hair colour you (temporarily) had🙂

"I'm just checking Goodreads for what I actually read this month." ---> If I don't write things down, I cannot recall what I read/watch week to week or month to month. You'd think I would remember because I record my books in about 5 places, but you'd be mistaken.

I just finished Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield and adored it. A darkly atmospheric historical novel with wonderful fairy-tale elements.

Your talking about Inferior makes me think you would probably enjoy Pain and Prejudice by Gabrielle Jackson. It talks about the prejudice in the medical community towards women’s illness and pain. I think you’d find it a really valuable read.

I love this hair colour on you, too. :)

My October reads... Let me think... My favourite: The Scar, by China Miéville. Not the most comfortable read, but mindblowing. Second best: Last Argument of Kings, by Joe Abercrombie, third book in the First Law series and possibly the most disturbing one so far. My no 3: The Curse of Chalion, by Lois McMaster Bujold, medieval fantasy, just my cup of tea, but lacking the wow factor. No 4: Some Kind of Fairy Tale, by Graham Joyce - a very good book, but I liked Dark Sister better. No 5: A Rustle of Silk - historical (XVIIth century) crime novel, with a shifting PoV (why???) and a protagonist who ended up disappointing me. No 6: The Poppy War, fantasy inspired from Chinese history and lore, which had a really nice start, but turned into a mess and I'm still not sure what really happened. No 7, 8, and 9 - The Selection, The Elite, The One - OMG, quite entertaining, but low quality... I don't understand why so many people praise these... They're much worse than Twilight and I've seen youtubers ranting against Twilight, yet praising these. Why???!!! I kept reading, hoping they would get better, but no, these books are something a regular teenager could write.
I'm currently reading The Dresden Files. Again, very entertaining, but I don't understand the hype. Very easy to read, great for the weekend - that's the best I can say about them at the moment.
