I didn’t even have to apply at my shop 😅 manager was like “you’re here a lot, want a job?”

Out of all the jobs I've had my entire life, working at a bookstore was my favorite. It was actually my dream when I was younger to have my own bookstore.

If money isn't a problem I'd work as a book store owner 😭

I really appreciate that there’s no twist, nothing over-dramatic. Just wholesome bookstore chat.

The best part is being an anime fan and a worker knows what they're talking about when you're looking for a good manga recommendation for a new series in a specific genre.

Our local store has 1 worker that's specialized in comics and manga and just as big a fan as many of us customers.

I used to work at a very large retail brand bookstore and they only paid $11 an hour. I took a break from working with them for a contract job. When I came back, I asked for a set number of guaranteed hours or potentially an increase in pay. Since in the time I had been gone I had been diagnosed with epilepsy. They could not guarantee me this, but instead said happily “but our employee discount has gone up to 50%!” Like. That’s not gonna pay my bills or keep me medicated and out of the ER 😞

Love that little meta joke “the hardest part was having to act out selling a book to a customer”, because that’s exactly what she’s doing.

That $15.50 for 10-15 hours a week was worrying me until I found out that this was a teenager's work schedule.

My mom worked at a Barnes & Noble back when I was around 5-8, and she absolutely loved it (especially the employee discount which she used a lot, partially to get my dad most of his D&D books)
She doesn’t work at Barnes & Noble anymore bc we move a lot due to military, and there isn’t one in our area that we can easily drive to

I swear, book shop employees are so good at selling books and making return customers. They just casually compliment everything you buy until your addicted and broke.

The money and doing multiple peoples jobs was what got me. Besides that it literally was a dream ❤

I once worked at a comic book shop in Long Beach for about 6 months until it was time for me to get a real job. I just kept coming in and after a while I got cool with the GM and he told me someone was leaving and I said I’d take up some hours if he needed the help and boom I was hired. I accepted the gig cus I wanted to learn how to use illustrator and get any tips I could from artists. I learned so much and had a great time. That job helped bring my art to a new level and I’m still making money off it to this day, I’m forever grateful.
