As a Swedish person myself, I personally think that our restrictions for naming your child “Brtyajfkl” for example are pretty good to make sure that the kid doesn’t have to go through with some sort of bullying because of their name literally being “Frtug.”

So if someone is named Harrison, their kid would have the last name “harrisonsson”?

The Swedish name laws aren't that restrictive. We had one guy very recently named: "RICHARD Leif Sonny Knugen Pistolero Aik Terror Freakshow Ninja". And yes, the allcaps is intentional.

Source: I work for the tax agency. I had to deal with this guy constantly triggering alarms in our systems because his name made the string "error" appear in the logs. Luckily he later decided to change his name to something normal.

"what would you like his name to be?"
"Umm... James"
"Sorry, that name is taken. How about: XxJamesanalloverxX, Jamescare420, Jameslol

Fun Fact: while Sweden has pretty tough rules about changing your last name, you can legally change it to the same type of last name the Icelandic system uses. As long as you can prove that it's your parent, you can add the -son or -dotter to their name and have that be your last name. Back in the day, it was the standard way of naming in most of the nordics.

I mean, I don't agree with the REASONS Sweden prohibits names, but honestly, naming a child (but pronounced "Albert") just as a protest move seems like it would count as child abuse.

If only Elon Musk saw this before naming his son.

I predict that by 2040, a baby somewhere in the world will be given a name containing an emoji.
