Optimists see the opportunity in every difficulty. Pessimists see the difficulty in every opportunity. You sir are an optimist and I thank you for creating this video that counters Mayuko's pessimism about iOS development. You got yourself a new subscriber.

Great points, and learning any programming language is a plus. I can't see any disadvantages in that. The rest depends on the way we manage or, so to speak, sell the value of our skills.

I''m a react native developer for almost 2 years now, I recently bought a swift 5 udemy course because I want to switch to native ios development, do you think starting in swift 5 is fine? btw I''m a big fan of yours.

Thanks for making video on this. Very important topic especially for new developers. I also feel it’s better to become an expert in one stack which you like rather than seeing others and getting confused. It takes years to master a stack, we should respect and believe our strengths. But hard to control our mind in this dynamic market.

I left iOS development after a year or so, this summer... for me it boiled down to the developer toolchain/xcode. I never got xcode or the swift compiler to be stable and the swift compiler would also freeze randomly several times a day forced me to kill it.... and on top of that, I couldn't stay on a Xcode version I liked that was stable and the forced updates did not make it easier as it may fixed one thing and introduced new issues... and say code that worked in .2 doesn't work in .3.. so trying to google stackoverflow isn't the most helpful as many things already became and when I was forced to update my OS before the stable version was already out I quitted it.

I may come back later when apple got their SwiftUI, compiler and things fixed, as I quite enjoyed Swift as a language and all that.... also fix their documentation. (Why wasn't there a proper SwiftUI + CoreData tutorial... when it's that what they want you to use instead of say Realm.. and for me CoreData is new, I'm not a old Obj-C dev)

I have to disagree on Xcode. Xcode is far behind in productivity. Simple things like jumping to declarations and finding all usages of your code, takes a million IntelliJ based software: ctrl/command + B. End of story. Xcode shortcuts are also not intuitive. Almost every dev tool use the same type/similar commands. So you can even just guess your way there if they aren't the same. Xcode is just backwards and use some awkward shortcuts. You spend half your dev time doing this major context switch than moving at your desired pace.
Jetbrains makes great tools for developer productivity, and I just prefer that over having any other pro's for Xcode.

What would you recommend for cross platform dev? Im developing an app, initially for iOS and Android but ultimately linux, macos and win32. My current thoughts are Qt. Im relatively new to mac dev but hope to use C/C++ and maybe Rust. Learning swift or objective c would add another hurdle but maybe thats still the best way for native ios and macos apps. Im currently using vscode.

Awesome video Aivars, I’m learning iOS developments since end 2016 and I tried this year to apply for a job as iOS developer (after finishing my studies) but unfortunately I got rejected too many times 😞☹️ Do you have any advices. Thank you

Try saving for a nice macbook pro. It is expensive, but it will be an investment.

I've been a Java Spring Boot + React.js developer for about 4 years. Would it be a stupid career step to learn iOS development and switch over to that instead? Would I make much less money doing that? Or would my other skills be valued enough to the point where I wouldn't be payed like a iOS junior engineer?

What about the future? Don't you think that within next 3 to 5 years native development will die out?

I beg to disagree. Using Xcode kills my mood every single day. When it comes to design I am wasting so many hours on a spin wheel, waiting for it to move a single element or load something. The colors are messed up as well. Nothing seems to work when it comes to design.
